My wife and I had a winter nights stay including a visit round the hotels micro brewery. All staff are first class helpful and very friendly. We especially enjoyed the visit round the micro brewery including a tasting session at the end with a fine selection of beers. The bedroom was well appointed and the bathroom first class although compact. The Stables Restaurant was cosy the menu was varied and reasonably priced. Breakfast is taken in the main part of the hotel the cooked breakfast is not for the fainthearted very filling and very enjoyable with great views from the window tables. The hotel is next door to the Beamish Open Air Museum which is a gentle walk away. Situated equal distance between Newcastle & Durham plenty of variety for all. We will definitely return for a couple of nights next time.

We wed here in 2011 (can't recommend as wedding venue highly enough! Perfect in every way from rooms to staff) and have since returned to stay for 2 nights. As on our wedding day, when we returned to stay staff were amazing. Service was top notch and we had an amazing large room, with whirlpool bath, 4 poster, bay windows, tea/coffee, water etc. Room was fresh, bright and clean. Our stay package included dining in The Stables restaurant which was excellent - a good menu selection, service and surroundings. The food was delicious. Today we returned to sample afternoon tea. It didn't disappoint. We had a window seat overlooking the beautiful grounds. Service was impeccable and friendly. The cakes were all freshly home baked on site, and plentiful and there was a good selection of sandwich fillings. The scone was the best scone I'd ever had. Was a bargain for £10 per head. Would highly recommend. We enjoyed a stroll in the beautiful grounds and hotel, after. A great place to stay or visit, or wed at! Can't recommend enough, as one of the best places for customer service, in comparison to similar venues in County Durham we've been to. It's also ideally located to access the amazing Beamish Museum.

Room Tip: Room sizes and style vary considerably throughout, due to being a listed building, including premier...

Fantastic customer service great food and excellent value for money
We found the deal through travel zoo and booked direct through the hotel for the same price. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We did the tour of the micro brewery which was fun and enjoyed the tasting of the ales. Slept well in room 1 and had a very good Northumbrian breakfast
Will definitely be booking again

Our party of 4 adults booked had a short break here in October which was good enough for us to book for New Year. We arrived on the 30th, had a look around Durham and a great evening meal in the Stables Bar at the hotel - they have their own micro brewery and the beer is first class! We went to Beamish Museum on New Years Eve day, which is fabulous. It's a five minute drive from the hotel and is just a great attraction, even on a blowy rainy day!
The evening function was very good, the band took some warming up but were fine through midnight and afterwards.

The rooms are good, sometimes a little cramped but clean and functional. But what makes this hotel is the service - everyone is really friendly and helpful, it is splendid geordie hospitality! We're already planning our next stay!

Being New Year it was pricier than normal but there are some good deals available throughout the year.

We arrived on New Years Day to a very warm welcome from Iris, the receptionist on duty. Iris was able to give us all the information we required for our stay including information about our restaurant reservation. The room was lovely and, having seen photographs on the website, just as expected. We had read reviews on tripadvisor concerning the restaurant which were quite negative however the restaurant far exceeded our expectations - the food was lovely and the staff attentive and helpful. Overall we would highly recommend this hotel, had a lovely experience and would definitely go back.

Just returned from a stay at Beamish Hall. We stayed for one night in a delux family room, which was lovely. We attended the family New year event, this was fabulous, we had four adults, a 10year old and a two year old with us. The children were entertained right from the start of the night, with face paints and fun, games and balloons from Crazy Kev. The children were also fed first with a childrens buffet. Adults then had a served starter, buffet main course and served desert. Food was lovely as was all entertainment. All staff are to be thanked and congratulated, working and being so pleasant in a room full of noisy excited children and there parents is no mean feat. We will definitely be trying to book for next year and would recommend to friends and family.
only one bad point, drinks in hotel are expensive, so try to budget for this.

Room Tip: No mobile phone reception, (not always a bad thing)
