A well situated long established site with a large closely packed selection of residential vans, many owed for several decades by the same Plymouth families who have gradually edged their way to the plum pitches on our near the front. Lots of people know each other which can make it foolish for one off or new visitors. The facilities including the shop aren't great and the permanent staff including security could be better trained politer and more in touch with punters' needs. There are sporadic power problems and there is recurrent sewage difficulty still not entirely resolved. That said it is a good place, family orientated. If you want more lively evening entertainment you need access to a car.

PCL2020, Owner at Mother Ivey's Bay Holiday Park, responded to this reviewResponded 24 May 2011

Dear "Jannerbloke"

Thank you for your review, which touches on many different issues. I will try and cover each of your concerns in turn.

First, please be assured that none of our customers owns a "residential van" and that everyone is a holidaymaker like yourself. While many of our customers do live in Plymouth and have been holidaying at Mother Ivey's for generations, this level of attachment is surely a compliment to the way our business operates.

Second, I am sorry that you were disappointed by both our facilities and staff and although you have not given me enough details to make any specific changes, I wish to assure you that we continually invest in our park facilities and staff training, for the benefit of all our customers.

Third, your reference to "sporadic power problems" and "recurrant sewage diificulty" is simply not true. Everyone reading this can also read the two earlier posts from August 2010 relating to a major electrical power surge at Mother Ivey's, but that was a one-off incident and also completely beyond our control. Action speaks loudest. We immediately fixed the problem and, regardless of the degree to which our holidaymakers were affected, we fully-refunded all 400+ families holidaying on park at the time, many of whom are returning this year. I repeat, this was a one-off incident and there are no sporadic or recurrant issues.

Fourth, while it is not quite right to say that anyone wanting evening entertainment needs a car as many of our customers do walk to the Harlyn Inn, I thank you for highlighting that Mother Ivey's does not have any on-site club or restaurant facilities, a point which is appreciated by most of our customers.

Once again, thank you for your review.

We have been to MIB seven years running and love it! The children look forward to this holiday every year. We do camping with no electric but have no problems. The showers are spotless as are the toilets. Staff are all friendly and yes there is a grumpy old lady on reception but we just take pleasure winding her up! The beach is fantastic and we are happy to leave our stuff and go back to the tent for lunch knowing that all will be intact when we return. Yes there are no clubs, glamourous gran competitions, bars etc and that's why we like it! Go to Harlyn Bay next door and it'll make you appreciate MIB even more...

Mother Ivey's is easily the best holiday park we have ever stayed on. The grounds are beautiful and full of flowers, I even saw a hummingbird moth! We stayed in a 2 bedroom diamond caravan which had a lovely view out to sea and towards the life boat launch. The caravan was spotless and very plush. Yes, Mother Ivey's is on the expensive side for caravan hire but you do get what you pay for. This park isnt for you if you want kids clubs and a club room with entertainment at night - it has none of that. Most of the caravans on the park are privately owned and you can see why. Mother Ivey's exudes exclusivity and doesnt really need any advertising, It seems most clients are repeat guests hence the need to book very early! The site has a shop which has all the essentials plus a delivery from a local Padstow bakery every day - fresh almond croissants every morning mmmmm!
Already booked again for June this year, and no doubt we will continue to return to this idyllic corner of Cornwall!

I share amazement at the negative comments here. I can only deduce that angry people are more motivated to broadcast their views while those (I think the majority) that actually love mib would rather say nothing since it's actually so good. It is located near Trevose head and has not only it's own beach at the foot of it's site with iconic views and great family surfing but it also is close to boobys beach which has great rockpooling and surfing which joins onto Constantine bay at lower tides. It's one of the best areas in north Cornwall and it's full in the summer months suggesting the majority accept the rates are worth it. you can walk to padstow and beyond on the Coastal path and the local roads are great for cycling and joins up with the camel trail which runs on from padstow to wadebridge and Bodmin etc. The prices are higher than some places but then it's far better than a great deal of commercial and club sites I've stayed in. obviously those who buy a cheap tent and do things on the cheap might not value the site so much . All I can add is that if you have a caravan or motorhome then you would be hard placed to find a better location. It's got ample water waste points, it promotes recycling, has purpose built showers and wc's (not just cubicles), has cheap wifi, a great shop and helpful staff. The shop also sells products from the local padstow bakery and the site has a well kept array of flowers and plantings that highlight the care and attention taken to keeping the site pristine and welcoming. We will return as will many others.

I can't believe the other reviews about Mother Ivey's!

We have stayed in many campsites and have to say that Mother Ivey's is one of the best.

It was spotlessly clean - in particular the showers. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There was plenty of space between tents, making it very quiet at night.

And having your own private beach was wonderful.
