“Lovely hotel in a lovely little spa town”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

This hotel was perfectly positioned, just 5 minutes from the town centre via a lovely woodland walk. To our surprise we had not just a room, but an apartment with a lovely big balcony and a very comfortable bed.The breakfast was wonderful with such a large variety of things to sample. The staff were wonderful too and so friendly and helpful. In fact there was no aspect of our stay that wasn't superb. Many thanks Hotel Schlossberg.

We had a short stay at the Hotel Schlossberg in June 2012 as part of a driving tour around Europe. The exterior of the Hotel looks very 60s and dated but this belies the modern interior which is fresh and looks to have been recently refurbished. Our problems were not therefore to do with the quality of the Hotel (the breakfasts are also great) but more about finding it, how to get in, and the reception from the husband who hardly speaks any English (fair enough - my German is poor as well). The sat nav in our car got really confused (as all Sat Navs do Sabine later told us....!) - it did not even have Schlossbergstrasse listed. So they really should post a sign at the the top of the hill at the junction of Romerstrasse with the main road in, Ernst-Eisenlohrstrasse, to help new visitors locate the hotel. But once you find it your problems continue as there is no apparent entrance to the hotel. We ended up parking the car and scouted round eventually finding a back door that led us to reception - again no signage and as a regular German visitor to Badenweiler who we had to help said "its not obvious". Unfortunately our problems continued as Sabine - who speaks perfect English and very businesslike - seems to hold another job during the day leaving the husband to look after things. OK if you are German....but as a result we did not get a choice of rooms and he forgot to give us our complimentary bus and train passes which would have been very handy !. I would not mark the hotel down for these things though as once we had moved to a room with a fantastic view (make sure you ask..) we enjoyed our short stay and would return. Not in June though as Badenweiler is very quiet with a lot of the restaurants closed and those that are open (as part of other hotels) are quite expensive. The roman spa pool (Cassiopeia Therme) is worth a visit and there are some great walks.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over Oberweiler and west. Some of the rooms are at the back of the hotel...

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel is superbly run, very comfortably appointed and offers superb breakfasts (they don't offer other meals, but that's no problem in the Badenweiler area). The location is just below the Schloss - everything is within walking distance, so long as you don't mind a hill or two. Strongly recommended.
