Great location with historical charm

I stayed with my husband at Barbarossa for two nights. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet varied. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The hotel has a lot of interesting old artefacts to look at. Would definitely go again, handy location to explore the beautiful town of Konstanz.

We stayed here on three separate nights while cycling the Bodensee., Good sized rooms, super friendly and helpful, reception staff,,brilliant location in the centre of town in easy walking distance to all the main sights and easy access to the Bodensee Radweg. Breakfasts very high quality. We ate in the restaurant on our last night( luckily we booked) and the food was wonderful and reasonably priced by German standards. A very old hotel, full of historic memorabilia and decorations. Highly recommended!!

While vacationing in Europe with no specific plans, on a lark, we decided the small college town on the lake would be a fun stop on our way to Switzerland. Well, we never made it. We absolutely fell in LOVE with Konstanz and the Barbarossa made sure of that! Our HUGE room overlooked the plaza and we had front row seat to EVERY event during Fat Thursday (Schmotziger Donnerstag)!! We even left behind our costumes so the next guests would have something to celebrate, too. We can't wait to go back!!!

Room tip: I assume there might be rooms not facing the plaza... but who wants that!?!?

The hotel radiates history and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Parking is nearby in a public facility, but you need to make reservations at the hotel to ensure that you get a parking pass. As the hotel is in the center of town, you may not need your car during your stay; they provide a tourist ticket that lets you use the public transportation free-of-charge during your stay.

We stayed here whilst visiting family and to enjoy Ho Narro. And and what a great time we had. ( For travel info- we flew from the UK to Zurich then caught the train, which is a few steps from the airport, very frequent and a very scenic journey of just under an hour.)
The hotel is 10 minutes from the railway station, right in the middle of the city and within walking distance of everything.
This is an incredibly old hotel- don't be fooled by the entrance. Once you get upstairs, the antique furniture, beautiful windows and fitments, quaint hallways and pictures, really give you the feel of being in a very beatiful, old German hotel.
We phoned the hotel direct and got a good deal. We had booked 2 rooms for our family and both were reasonably spacious and well priced, although there wasn't a view in either, we knew that in advance.
The breakfast service was excellent, and there was plenty of choice for eating and drinking- something to please everyone.
Our only disappointment was not being able to eat in the hotel restaurant- we'd been told we couldn't book and just turn up. But on arrival, we were told the restaurant was closing- even though it was only 7: 45pm. I think if you intend to eat there, it will be worth booking.
But despite all that, it really was such a joy to be staying at Hotel Barbarossa through the Festival - so much music everywhere, so much going on and lots of helpful advice and information on where to go and what to see.
I'd highly recommend a visit to Konstanz in Summer or for Ho Narro - it really is a fabulous family festival, in a very beautiful city with so much to see and do and so many places to eat. And staying in this hotel was quite reasonable and well worth it.
Thank you for making our stay such a pleasure,

Room tip: 2nd floor rooms with a view would be nice.

Found this hotel near to the old town, so that I could attend the town’s Christmas Markets. 8 min walk from the train station and definitely in the old town. Hotel has plenty of history with pleasant staff. Room was ready for 11:00 checkin after flying into Zurich and coming here. Lunch and dinner at the hotels was very tasty and priced fairly. Looking forward to my next few nights.

Room tip: 216 is close to stairs and elevator. No elevator noise. Sleeps two. Tv available with many language stations. Excellent WiFi connection.
