Very friendly and accommodating reception, rooms are well kept with all necessary amenities including a/c. 10 min walk through the park to old town, 25 min from train station or a few minutes by bus. Very good selection of breakfast items. Irish bar/restaurant on a first floor is added value. It was quite in our room despite bar being open very late.

When we booked this hotel we didn't realize that it was above a pub on a main street. Since it was very warm out we could have had a peaceful stay if we could have kept the air conditioning on all night but unfortunately it was turned off at midnight. The WiFi did not work very well. But on the plus side, the room was fine, breakfast was great and the location was good.

We had a very pleasant stay in Hotel Bilger Eck:
- super clean and comfortable room
- welcome card and chocolates upon arrival that provides a feeling of sincere welcome
- very good quality breakfast German style
- great location, conveniently located in 15 minutes walking distance to downtown with all shopping facilities
- nice Irish pub as part of the hotel

Overall great value for money in a super nice environment!

Thank you to the team and the nice lady owning that place!

We stayed at this smallish, family-run hotel, conveniently located in the picturesque town of Konstanz, walking distance from the old town, right along the river, in early August, and found the service excellent, and the breakfast amazing. Seriously, the best breakfast we have ever had while travelling outside the US. A wonderful buffet of foods that appeal to a variety of cultures, from marinated fish dishes and salads to freshly scrambled and soft boiled eggs and crisp bacon. In between a rich array of cereals, breads, pastries, fruits, cheeses and meats, whipped cream cheeses, salmon, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee any way you want it - a pot of German coffee, caffe latte, cappuccino, espresso, you name it. We were seriously impressed.

We (married couple and university aged daughter) stayed in Room 11 (the one shown in the featured photo with the wooden headboard with lights on the ceiling), which was clean, comfortable and very roomy. Big enough bathroom and excellent shower.

While I am enthusiastic about this place, I will add two very important points that could be negatives: 1) there is no staff on duty at night. We arrived at midnight, six hours later than planned, and had to go through a slightly unnerving code-activated key drop process to get our key at a box outside the hotel. And while we knew the hotel did not have its own parking, we did not know where the parking lot was, so wasted a half hour driving around trying to find a legal spot. If you go here, take note: use the Ibis Hotel Parking lot just two blocks away. Cheap and convenient (we parked there the second night and paid 2.90 euros). 2) As mentioned in a review from 2015, Room 11 is indeed over the night entrance door, so we could hear the late night and early morning door openings. It really didn't bother us anymore than the noise made in any other hotel by fellow guests who are clueless enough to let the door slam behind them, and it certainly did not wake us up. I suggested to the English speaking young woman, member of the owning family, that it might be helpful to put up a "Please close the door quietly so as not to disturb sleeping guests" note on the door. It would be a useful and simple fix. The room faces the street, but the windows provide truly amazing sound proofing and we never heard the traffic.

We paid 179 euros for the roomy triple, which included breakfast (otherwise 10 euros a person). As I said, staff was super friendly - for example, I had to do a one-hour Skype meeting for business one afternoon, and they did not mind me setting up in the breakfast area to conduct my meeting; the host even whipped up a nice big cup of coffee while I was waiting to log on.

So this is a strong recommendation, with two caveats: 1) you will want to check in when there is staff around so you can get oriented (parking lot, road to the center, etc).
Location is super, right across the river from the old town, and facing a pretty park, great for walking or biking. 2) Inexplicably, the hotel turns of the air conditioning from midnight to 6 am. So there was no AC when we finally got into our room the first night (which made for a toasty room with the three of us, leading to us finally opening the windows onto the street for a bit of cool air) and insufficient AC the next night - by 6 am it was quite warm in the room.

When here, go to the nearby Constanzer Wirtshaus for dinner.

Room tip: Ask for a roomy room on a high floor
