Located in the centre of the town very close by the bridge and the impressive old town hall building. We visited on a sunny Sunday afternoon when we was very busy. Very popular with both locals and tourists most of which were either drinking wine or enjoying one of the many large and delicious ice creams. We chose iced coffees consisting of ice cream, chilled coffee and topped with fresh cream. Just what we needed sitting in the sun watching the world go by. Service was a little slow but then again they were busy. Good place for a pit stop. Recommended.

Stopped here for croissants and a drink. Very friendly waitress, clean tables and a nice place to sit and people watch. Even the little bird that came to say hi liked a bit of our croissant. Try Bambergs special smoked beer called Schlenker la I loved it but it's not to everyone's taste.

We have wanted to go here for 2 weeks now, but never seemed to make it. The cafe was recommended for their Rhubarb pie, but unfortunately we came around 5 and they were out at 4. So, we had their Wiener Apfel Strudel with vanilla ice cream, some whip cream and a half slice of strawberry. I don't eat whip cream, so my spouse got mine, but the strawberry was good and so was the ice cream. They heat up the pie, which is nice, but the actual crust around the pie reminds me of Baklava, which is not really something I think fits apple pie. So, heated and good ice cream, but not going to have the apple pie again. However, my spouse liked it, as it was different from what he was used to, but still tasty. His Latte Machiato was good, but the prices for drinks and the pies are definitely higher than other cafes where we have had better. Ours cost 6.50 each for the Apfel Strudel. So, while we will go to try their Rhubarb pie, we will skip their apple and their scoops cost the same as other places, they have some interesting flavors and if the vanilla is an indication, the other flavors are probably really good. Our server was pleasant, and had we needed to get everything translated to English he would have, but since not, we spoke in German. The people watching is good, but if you are used to eating in the States where even outside there is no smoking allowed, that is not true here in Germany, which is usually not an issue, tho here the tables are so close, the smoke goes into your face. Went back for their Rhubarb pie and they weren't out, so we both ordered one and really enjoyed it! In fact, of the 4 places I have had this treat, this is the first in the ratings. Yummy! The crust was perfect, the sweetness just right. My spouse had the whipping cream on the pie, and he said it wasn't sweet, so that was fine with him. He too felt that it was the best we had eaten so far at a cafe. He had a Cappuccino this time, and it was a bit sweeter than the Cafe Macchiato, so next time he will stick with the Cafe Macchiato. Pleasant service again, got a table under the umbrellas and enjoyed people watching again. This is the place to go for Rhubarb pie!

We have eaten in Riffelmacher before, but it is not our favorite Cafe in Bamberg. The pastries are well above average if not outstanding. The cafe is always crowded with tourists, even in the off season. I suppose it is on the street most travelled by tourists.
Inside, it is extremely crowded and waiting for a table is to be expected there and in almost every cafe in town. The crowded tables and the resulting noise totally ruin the cafe-atmosphere. The restaurant layout is no friendlier to the staff, who are always bumping into one another or, waiting for each other to move.
If you are lucky enough to live in Bamberg, or have a room there, I suggest take-away to eating there.

We stopped for ice cream inside, as the line was a mile long. Then we understood why -- they have amazing flavors like orange-basil, fresh strawberry, Japanese rice, and lavender. We shared a 5-scoop serving, which was just right -- 5 exotic flavors to try. The bakery offers are lovely, too. The floor tiling, the historic wood counter, the high ceilings, the bathrooms way up and around the stairs, all give a feeling for the way Bamberg buildings look and their historical roots, something I always love to experience.
