Hotel Achtermann is located very close to the rail line, in fact trains pass within meters of the rear of the hotel. Our first room was very noisy due to the trains. We requested a move, the member of staff initially seemed surprised we were bothered by the trains then he stated the web site clearly states the hotel is close to the railway. I couldn't find any reference to this but the web site states 'Since our old hotel is located directly at the pedestrian zone of Goslar all rooms are quiet. The new room was fine and much more modern, but we had to pay to upgrade.

There are no tea / coffee making facilities in the bedrooms.

Swimming pool was not well used probably because it was a little too cold for us and the tiles are in need of a clean.

The location (apart from proximity to railway) is excellent to walk into the centre and the spa area is really nice.

Room Tip: If the sound of trains bothers you, ensure you ask for one of the quieter rooms.

A delightful hotel in a beautiful town. The room was spotless as was the whole hotel. It is very central so it is easy to explore on foot. The pool was excellent and we found the pool bar was a great find for drinks and snacks. Persevere because it is a little difficult to locate. Booking in was so smooth as compared to many other hotrls in which we have stayed. Surrounded by the scenic mountains it was a relaxing and pleasureable break.

The hotel felt a bit dated, as if it could use some serious redecoration. And the thin walls could not stop the noise from the railway and the other guests. But... i really enjoyed the indoor swimming pool, the breakfast was great, staff was helpful and the location, close to the medieval centre of Goslar and not too far from the highway, was great.

Outside temperatures were up to 39 degrees and this hotel offered no air conditioning, so sleeping was very difficult, especially as we needed open windows and other hotel customers were less than quiet, outside, one evening, made worse by tubular steel chair frames being constantly scraped across stone floors. This was a front facing room, at the back is a busy railway. In the evening, the dining room was like a furnace due to lack of air circulation.
Now the positive; the bedroom was fine and beds comfortable but there was no bath and the bathroom was so cramped that you had your feet in the shower tray when sitting on the loo! The design of the shower head means, effectively, that you have a hand held shower because when it is on it's bracket it showers the wall. All very clean, pleasant staff, bedding changed daily and breakfast was very good, with some minor limitations but in an airier room than the restaurant. The location is part of the old town walls and, therefore, is well placed.
Mystery about Germany; three hotels and we didn't find a half decent towel but, the best were here.

This is a big hotel with all facilities. Cleaing absolutely ok. The room was not large. Breakfast was super. Staff very accommodating. Parking in parking garage linket to hotel. Located in the city next to the railway. That was not a problem. Can be recommended.
