Stayed here with a group on business. For the price, this is a clean, minimalist hotel. Having stayed at other hotels in this price point across Germany and the UK, this is actually at the nicer end of the spectrum. There is a full bar and restaurant on premises. Everything during my stay worked and was as expected. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. A steam iron and ironing board were available. So, nothing bad to say - at this price point. The food is fine - not gourmet - but fine. However, on my return for business, I will stay at a city-center hotel in Dusseldorf for the small increase in price.

The things I missed included air conditioning. You have to keep your room window open to moderate the temperature and the traffic noise - all night long - is insufferable. The bed is rock hard. The one pillow on the bed was not adequate to support my head. With my head touching the headboard, my feet hung off the end of the bed and were just two feet from the opposite wall. The wifi only worked in the bathroom and right next to the hall. The room was very small, even by German standards. The elevator in the building was not operable during my stay. The one bath towel provided was thin and scratchy like sandpaper. With the window open, the smell of cigarette smoke (I'm assuming from another guest smoking out of their window) kept getting into the room. So, at the price point, I guess these are really nit picking considerations. However, as a jet-lagged business traveler that spends 30%+ of his time on the road, this property just did not cut it. If you can't sleep, its just not worth the stay at any price.

Dear KenSMartin, thank you for taking the time to write an evaluation of our house. We are glad to hear that you liked our food and our services. If you need more pillows during your next stay, just call the reception and they will provide as much pillows as you want. Unfortunately not all of our guest rooms are equipped with an air condition, but for a little extra charge you can upgrade yourself into one of our Comfort Rooms, besides an air condition you'll find there a coffee maker, a trouser press and wifi is also included. We hope to welcome you back soon in our hotel. Sincerely. Matthias Camps Sales Manager AMBER HOTEL Hilden/ Düsseldorf

We have stayed here three times now for business. The location is wonderful, as its adjacent to the town center and the hotel has parking also. The street is quite busy, so if you are staying in the summer months and want to sleep with the window open, its best to request a room facing the back of the house and not the street. The rooms are very comfortable, albeit outdated but the beds and mattresses will provide a great sleep! Unfortunately I need to say that the food is quite bad. Breakfast is deplorable, so perhaps plan on eating elsewhere or being flexible. Also, there is a charge for internet, which I just can't understand in 2013! seems behind the times. All in all, we keep coming back here because the rooms are wonderful, for the price - being so close to town there are other places to eat!

Room Tip: away from the street!

Dear Guest, thank you for taking the time to write an evaluation of our house. We are glad to hear that you liked our rooms and mattresses. For a small amount of € 5,00 Euro you can use Wi-Fi for 24 hours in your room. Wi-Fi is included in all of our comfort rooms, as well as an air conditioning, a trouser press and a coffee maker. Additionally you can use our business corner with an internet PC for free. We are always open for suggestions on our breakfast. Our wide buffet offers cold cuts, a variety of cheese, a large bread and roll selection, 3 different types of eggs, bacon, sausages and beans as well as pastries, yoghurt, fresh fruit, muesli, a variety of juices and sparkling wine. We hope to welcome you back soon in our hotel. Sincerely, Your team of the Amber Hotel Hilden / Dusseldorf

I've stayed here twice, on business, and enjoyed it. The location isn't the best for sightseeing, but it is located right next to the Hilden outdoor mall. Shopping and restaurants galore are within walking distance.
The Hotel restaurant was good, food is good, breakfast buffet is really good.
The rooms are a little small but totally functional, beds are usually a single and rock hard.
My last stay my room was right off of the main road and road noise was minimal.

It is in the city centre, that is the only good thing it has.
The rooms are noisy, you can hear every car in the street. We got a comfort room, so it was supposed to be the best, but it was not big and specially with no sunshine!
They have lost a shirt we sent to the laundry! Definitely not worth the money the charge. They say it is 4 stars! With no gym, swiming pool or any extra service. We are definitely not coming back there again.

I stay here often as this is close to our office. It is a good place to stay if you are on a business trip. I do not have the experience of staying here for leisure trip, but i think would pick something in either Dusseldorf or Cologne. There is not moch to do in Hilden. The staff is very friendly and they have a good parking lot. Breakfast is very good. Make sure you get a room not facing the street as this can be quite noisy. The only downside are the soft pillows, but this is typically German, i think.

I stayed there on a two day business trip to Langenfeld (a city nearby). The location was good and close to some feir dining apportunities. Breafast was excellent, and the staff very friendly. Room 314 have a roof window. Not very good light

Stayed there for a birthday party with various other friends from all around Europe. Nice rooms, friendly staff and a great location. The breakfast was out of this world for this class of hotel. Would stay there again just for the breakfast, even if the rest wouldn't be that good, but it was!
