“5th visit”

Whenever I'm near here and travelling with people that have not visited before I stop. Everytime I visit I learn something else and many improvements have been made over the years for visitors. Simple to find and ample car parking. The memorial consists of the museum with artififacts videos and pictures aswell a book shop and of course the cemetery. above all else it's free.. Well worth a look even if you are struck for time you will gain insight from a visit of 30mins but allow yourself a couple of hours to fully absorb it all

“A must see if you can near about an hour away from Hamburg!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

We arrived at close to 6:00PM and the exhibition halls were closing so we didn't get to go in but we were able to walk around the Monument area which was more than fine with us as we have traveled to many camps before. The area was destroyed due to Typhus epidemic but there were stones surrounding large plots of grass stating how many people were buried there - 1000, 2000, 5000, etc.Chilling. As you walk around this large open space you see memorials that were put up for the Jews, Poles, Gypsies, etc. but more moving to me were the tombstones that families had put up with their loved ones names. Anne and Margo Frank had a stone that was put up in their memory. The history of the camp is interesting.

“A must see in Germany”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

This is a must see if you are in Germany. When we arrived we were able to get a private tour as there were not too many people about. The Exhibition/Museum of the former POW/Concentration camp is mind blowing. Our daughters were moved and in deep reflection following the tour and seeing the gravestone for Margot and Anne Frank after they had been to the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam.

“Moving”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Very moving and certainly a must do. The experience was slightly marred by the disrespectful behaviour of a group of German schoolchildren who were noisy ( including messing around in the film room) and running around ( they were at least 15/16 so should have known better).
