Glucksburger Schloss

We visited the castle at Glucksburg for the first time and it was just stunning. The grounds around the castle were also very scenic.
It is definitely a place worth visiting when you are in this area of German.
We had a great walk around and because the weather was lovely it was a lovely day.
The cost to visit the inside is 8 Euro's and well worth it.

Glucksburg is a nice little village just a few miles east of Flensburg. Glucksburg Castle makes the place both intresting, its a beautiful castle and as an historic hot spot!

We enjoyed our visit to this well-presented historic castle. Lots on the Royal connections of the Glücksburg family, notably the holiday use by the last Empress of Germany (who was a member of that family). The attic space used by the servants was particularly fascinating, with a delightful trick behind one door (won’t say which one – that would be a spoiler!). The Schleswig-Holstein question, the 1864 war between Denmark & the Prusso-Austrian alliance, all come into the story, and it is well worth going a few miles north, over the present border with Denmark to the Dybboel Banke History Centre on the site of the most important battle of the 1864 War. Perhaps unsurprisingly no real mention of its use at the end of the second world by Albert Speer, in his capacity as a minister in Admiral Doenitz’s government. We were left wondering which toilet was the one in which he was arrested!
My only quibble was having to leave my passport as security for the audio-guide – that seemed rather over the top.
