In 1476 this tower was built of the rubble of the demolished former duchal fortress and served as outer fortress. The name is supposedly derived from the residential area of “Scherenschleifer” (scheresliep: scissor-grinder) or is derived from its origin: "schleifen des alten burg" (the ring around the old Castle). The Tower also houses the War Memorial since 1931.
