“WOW!”
Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

This hotel is very special. We booked a stay in the suite over Easter and loved every moment from checking in, to the fantastic breakfast in the morning. Our room was spacious and clean and well decorated. The owners spoke little English, but communication was easy enough. We love Miltenberg and we will be back!

We spent 5 night at the end of april 2013 at Schmuckkastchen hotel and we must say its name really describes the place: a small jewel in a wonderful town!
The building itself is a historic landmark and it deserves all its popularity being one of the nicest market squares in Germany - actually all Miltenberg is just beatiful!
The property has been recently and lovingly refurbished (May 2012) under the new owners and this has led to very nice and confortable rooms which combine antique touches with modern colour schemes and uptodate facilities: flatscreens, minibar, safe, wifi (not always reliable in our room). Bathrooms are a bit on the small side but are clean and with all the necessary.
We asked for a room overlooking the square and the staff was so nice to book for us the double room with a bay window on the second floor n° 23 which was gorgeous!!
Breakfast is certainly a highlight of the hotel with a variety and quantitiy of food that can easily mattch and outperform a 4 star international hotel!!! Maybe some more fruit wuold be a nice touch.
Staff is very kind and, as many other reviews already said, the hotel will provide a parking coupon for your stay for the lots on the river Main.
Defnintely a great place to stay and good value for money.
Miltenberg is a lovely pciture-perfect town worth a visit - don't miss a dinner at Am Riesen and try the wonderful dfferent Faust biers which are produced in town - a real treat not for all!

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the market square: n° 23 the double with baywindow - the best!, double...

This is a beautiful old hotel. Great location, beautiful room (we had a suite with a bow window on the market square) excellent breakfast, very friendly staff and owner (I suppose).
I was waiting to hear the bells as reported by previous reviewers, but nothing! We had a quiet sleep.
One can easily reach the hotel by car, just enter the pedestrian area, it's allowed to get to the hotel, drop the luggage and the staff will give you a ticket to park few steps away, for free.
the little town is a gem but it was cold and my wife not in good shape. At the next opportunity we will be back.

Stayed 1 night in early October 2012. This is a beautiful old hotel with small but comfortable rooms. Breakfast was excellent. Getting to the hotel by car is a slight challenge as it is in the middle of a pedestrian zone but once you find it you can drive in to drop your bags. The hotel provides access to a parking lot by the river. The hotel deserves a high rating; lots of charm and good service but unfortunately it is across the square from the noisiest church bells I have encountered in Europe; 24 hours a day every 15 minutes with a special cacophony at 6am. I thought many communities had silenced their bells over night? Anyway, it is a shame, I can’t recommend the hotel as a result.

Miltenberg is a beautiful town, great shops and lots of places to eat. Try the walkway behind this hotel for great views of the town and river.

Very well placed hotel in the centre of Miltenberg.

However if you like to sleep with open windows the bells of the church next door will wake you up every 15 minutes, the whole day and night.

Saaff very friendly and helpfull.

We like little German towns and tend to stay away from the larger cities when we travel in Germany, except when visiting the museums, etc. So it is that we have stayed in the Weinhaus am Alten Markt many times. Frequently when we travel to Germany we head right to Miltenberg and the Weinhaus Hotel to rest up from the trip for a couple of days.

The Weinhaus is 500 years old and is very well-maintained. It's a tourist attraction all by itself, except that it's in an out-of-the-way town, away from the the usual tourist routes. The owners are friendly and hospitable and have made our stays pleasurable. The rooms range from basic but comfortable to very nice and comfortable. This is not a luxury hotel, but it's a quiet place in a historic little town. The rooms have the standard small European bathrooms, which are adequate, and all have telephones and TVs. The breakfasts are included and are just wonderful. There is a full European continental breakfast with boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, jams, rolls, breads, yogurt, juices, coffee, etc. Breakfast is served in an upper room surrounded by original 500 years old beams, with the carpenter's marks still visible. There is no parking available on the property but the owner can sell you reduced rate parking coupons and you can park across the street along the river.

The owners vint their own wine, hence the name Weinhaus. You can try their product in their first floor restaurant. They offer typical German fare and also have nice cheese plates and other small menu items to go along with the wine if you don't want a full meal. There are a couple of breweries in town (just down the street from the hotel) and their products are likewise available.

The Weinhaus is, indeed, on the old market place, as its name describes. In front of it is the beautiful old town fountain and just down the cobblestone streets are shops and restaurants. The whole main street is a row of wonderful, ancient half-timbered buildings which are quite well maintained. There is a castle ruin on the hill overlooking the town which is a nice but short hike, and there is a small local history museum just across the street. The town church is less than 50 meters away from the hotel, so sometimes there can be quite a bit of sound coming from the church bells, especially on Sunday mornings.

Miltenberg is on the Main River and day cruises are offered from the dock about 100 meters from the hotel. You can take the ship to Wurzburg or Wertheim and back if you'd like. Groups of tourists come here for the cruises but rarely is the town itself crowded with camera carriers, as you'll find in Rothenburg. There is a beautiful walk along the Main River and, should you be interested, a mini-golf course, right along the banks!

The owners haven't made on-line booking available yet, but I've always been able to get reservations with a phone call or a letter. They do not take credit cards, so you'll need cash to pay for a room. There are ATMs just up the main street from the hotel in a local bank.

  • Liked — This is a beautiful, historic hotel in the center of a small historic and beautiful town.
  • Disliked — There is no elevator; access to the restaurant is difficult for travelers with disabilities.
