There is a charge for admission. I specifically went for the tour of the theatre. That tour is offered in German only. There is no literature about the castle in English. There is a restaurant in front of the theatre offering lunchtime fare and deserts. Even in late May, the sun was extremely hot - wear a hat or carry an umbrella for some much needed shade.

Spend the extra euros on a castle tour. English tours are at 14:15 on the weekends. The history of the castle and the opulentes of that time can only be appreciated by such a tour.
The gardens are stunning. We spent 5 hours at the castle and gardens.
Free cherries in June. Pick them yourself in the old fruit garden.

Thank Luc H

My second visit, but this time with my wife and adult children.
You cannot stay in Heidelberg without visiting Schwetzingen to understand this beautiful area and the history.
The Schloss is interesting in architecture, but the huge garden plan with a lake is magnificent.
Mainly now just a large geometric pattern with common tree hedges and not complementary floral as it should be to assume potential.

The almost total lack of flowers and plants can be disappointing.
To horticulturists it is the reason it rarely features.
Land or stadt finances ?

Our Schloss tour guide was brilliant, amusing and, although we parents understand German, kindly gave us explanatory English notes of her script.
A very elegantly dressed and impressive lady!

In some ways a sad history of dynasties that were cultured and visited by the famous.
Most of the treasured artefacts were re-located.
You still have a sense of life here with remaining furniture and portraits.

Spargel und erdbeeren seasonal stalls in the main street which is also famous for Sunday breakfast venues
In our case, nachmiittag, kaffee und kuchen. Fabulous choices of great baking.

The taxi fare to/from Heidelberg was exceptionally good.
No figures allowed here, but worth it. No direct public transport from Heidelberg.

We visited this beautiful park at 10:00 and booked the English language tour of the castle at 14:15 which lasted 60 minutes. The combined Ticket price was just €10 (6 for park 4 for castle) not much inside the castle odd bit of furniture quite sparse but maybe that's how they lived in 1700. The guide's command of the English was little bit disappointing. The walk around the Garden though was nice. Swans, geese, Otter's, koi Caro. Squirrels. And One little Mouse. Scenery was very pleasant. And Coffee and strawberry cake for €6 topped of a nice day.

Schwetzingen castle is very near to Hotel Villa Benz where I stayed recently.
Very good to walk inside & refresh myself.
A must to visit if you can spend some short time to spare.
