“First class guest house”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

This charming and beautifully decorated small hotel is conveniently and very quietly situated a few minutes walk from the town centre, on the northern edge of the Black Forest. Arrival is a little tricky as the reception is only open at restricted times, but you can arrange to collect your key from an exterior keysafe if necessary. The owner who did meet us was charming and very helpful. The room was comfortable and well appointed - it was more like a small apartment with its own kitchen area. It had a balcony overlooking some gardens and the hills beyond. Parking is provided at the front of the hotel, and free wifi is available - the password is in the hotel info in the room. There is a range of local produce available to buy in the reception area - the locally made Kirsch was very good, and a gift at 10 Euros (£8, $12) for 500ml.
Breakfast was in a beautifully appointed light and airy room. The range and quality of food was the best of the 9 hotels we'd stayed in on our 2 week European tour, ranging from freshly cooked scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, lovely bread - first class. A very enjoyable if all too short stay, and all for just 80 Euros (£66, $100 ) per night

This friendly small hotel sits in a picturesque town on the edge of the Black Forest. It was easy to get the tram to Karlsruhe (and the owner provided us with free guest tickets for the tram).

We had a small apartment style room with separate bathroom and kitchenette. Nice balcony with lovely views of the forest. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated in shades of blue, yellow and white. Very fresh and sunny. Unfortunately we did not have time to use the pool or sauna.

Breakfast was exceptionally good and included mini bowls of local Wurst Salat along with all the usual cheese/sausage selections, conserves, yoghurts, rolls etc. Very attentive service by the owner - nothing was too much trouble.

Our stay was very brief but enjoyable.

Stayed here for two nights and the local area is very nice and picturesque. (Especially Baden-Baden which is only a short drive away).
The room was a good size for two travellers and our luggage.
Hotel was nice and clean.
Car parking is directly outside hotel and they have limited spaces (6 or 7) so it may be a good idea to possibly reserve in advance.
Having said all the above we did however find the main hotel woman to be a bit rude, maybe she didn't like English? Or the younger generation english?
But she came across as 'bossy' and a bit 'intollerant'. For example, when arriving and trying to park the car safelty I noticed her frantically giving me arm waving directions to park exactly where she thought I should park. (Maybe it was just her way of offering help but she looked a little dissaproving). And also when the wife and I were in the swimming pool having a good time she came in and rudely made a "SHHHHH" noise as my wife must have been laughing too loud.
The other main member of staff however (her husband I think) was very polite and friendly.

The breakfast at this hotel was notibly on a higher level than others we visited on our euro-tour. They served a mixture of hot and normal cold continental buffet breakfast foods.

Rating this hotel I am going to keep my standards high and only give it 3/5, if not for the bossy lady it would be 4/5.

Very friendly and helpful owners. Very clean heated pool and nice sauna. Excellent breakfast. They went the extra mile, providing free train pass to nearby Christmas Market. Bad weather made walking unpleasant so owner offered to drive us to dinner and set up a return ride by the chef! Near enough to train station to walk, same to nearby swim spa. Bring your own suit and towel, but unless you like spending extra this hotel have a lovely pool and suana.

Room Tip: Beware if you are extra tall-our room had the dreaded footboards. Otherwise perfect.

Our room was more a studio apartment with kitchen area and balcony and large seating and excellent views of the Black Forest. Location is on a secondary quiet road about 400 yards from the bars and local shops and easy parking. Breakfast was really nice and very attentive owner who went out of way to be friendly. On paying at the end of the stay, he gave us two big bars of chocolate to take away. Top class breakfast selection and owner had excellent understanding of English and liked our little MG sports car.

Herr Streit is a very gracious host, I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. Breakfast is typical, therefore quite adequate.

Not a 5 star hotel...but you wouldn't get such personal service at a 5 star hotel.
