Perfect location, old fashioned rooms

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Aug 2020
The hotel has one of the best spots you can imagine in Meersburg. Right next to the lake and at the beginning of the see promenade. We could park the car in front of the hotel to check in (and also when checking out) which was nice because it is in a pedestrian area and the parking lot was on a 5 minutes walk. A parking spot in the parking lot (via the hotel) costs 12 EUR a day but is an almost necessary option because parking in Meersburg is almost impossible and this is the cheapest option. The room was okay. Old-fashioned and outdated but bed slept fine and shower was small but with a good water pressure. We were at the entrance/lobby site of the hotel and therefore had a lake view, really nice!
Breakfast was good and from the breakfast area you have a view on the lake.

Beautiful location overlooking the lake Konstanz. Our room was large and overlooking the lake. The location in the old city of Meersburg is great, the breakfast was good, the lady at the front desk at check out was very friendly. We took the ferry to visit Konstanz. The hotel needs some remodeling in a certain part. Please take time to visit Meersburg.

We stopped at the terrace of the hotel's beautifully located restaurant this afternoon and got very poor and chaotic service. It took the waiter half an hour to even notice our presence… When we finally got to order our meals and beverages, I politely enquired as to whether we might possibly get some bread with our wine, as I feared we might have to wait for another hour until the food arrived, to which the waiter reacted in a very unfriendly fashion. We later noticed that the customers who had arrived after us and were seated at the table right behind us had gotten our wine order by mistake (our waiter had simply delegated our table to another waiter), so we complained to our waiter about it when he finally appeared at our table. We didn't want to make a big deal about it, just wanted to place our order again, but the man thought it fit to snatch the poor lady's yet untouched glass of wine to give it to me, which I refused, of course… In fact, by that time, both my husband and I were so unnerved by the whole experience that we decided to leave without waiting for our order, upon which the waiter tried to stop me from departing, barring my way. Apparently, he really had passed on our food order to the kitchen, and was afraid he would get in trouble because of this… By that time, however, my husband was so unhappy that I refused to stay. So we simply left and eventually found some lovely places further down on the promenade by the lake. We ended up having our early meal at a less fancy restaurant, but with friendly and competent service. I don't think I have ever left a restaurant so abruptly after having placed my order, so this was a première for me, but ... I have no regrets!

We enjoyed our night there, however a bit complicated as they just have courtyard for few cars so we had to park in the public parking 400 meters far and buy tickets. 0.75 euros per hour or 16 for 12 hours, free from 8 pm to 8 am.
The hotel was good and especially the breakfast with splendid view (come first at 7 am), good service and delicious products, bakery, cold cut, cheeses.
Easy to walk around and very quiet

Room tip: ask for lake view

I have stayed with my partner for one night. The lady at reception was very nice and helpful both at check-in and check-out. Our room was on the third floor, which is also the highest floor, which means room just under the rooftop. It was very small and very hot. The room had only one window, but we couldn't keep open, because of all the bugs wanted to come inside. The bathroom had no windows and it was also very small.
The breakfast nice and the location is great, just on the lakeside. However, parking is extremely difficult, because the hotel does not have proper parking space (though they advertise they have), but only a narrow and tiny alley, where they pack and stack all the cars together. Therefore we decided to park somewhere in town in a proper place. It seemed impossible as all the car parks were full and expensive. At the end we found a kind of park and ride car park outside of the town.

Room tip: Avoid rooms on the top (3rd) floor!!

This is a heritage hotel in a fantastic location on the edge of Bodensee (Lake Constance). The limited hotel parking is through an old gate and in the courtyard of the hotel.

The hotel itself is old fashioned but also full of old world character and charm. The rooms themselves are adequate without being luxurious but a world away from the standard modern characterless chain hotel.

We were visiting Meersburg in November which is very much low season and unfortunately a lot of the local businesses were closed for the winter which unfortunately detracted from the obvious charm of the lovely location.

Definitely a place worthy of a second visit when the weather is better.
