Nesselwang to Fussen --no train that goes straight there instead take the bus which only takes 30mins and it cost 4euro each way. From the hotel go down to main street where the Catholic church is turn left toward Aldi grocery store(going East on main st)(Aldi-we bought our waters and food) you come across the tourist information building(which close on weekends) go straight till you get to the bakery(famous-where most people hang out and eat snacks and coffee)across from the bakery or realtor is the bus station..wait for bus #71 to Fussen. The schedule are all printed on the board, you pay the driver. limited schedule on weekends specially sunday start at 10am. i think it comes by every 50mins or so....this will take you all the way to Fussen drop off at bus station near train station where the bus that goes to the castle is waiting for you(was convenient). buy two way bus tickets to the castle..

my husband and i intended not to stay in Fussen where the big castle Neuschwanten is.., instead we ventured out in a small german town called nesselwang 30mins by bus to fussen and its a big ski resort town. we got there late may so it wasnt crazy busy. true- train honk every time its close by the station. but we were so tired that it didnt bother us. the lady at the desk was very sweet and helpful thu little english spoken..thanks to google translate..i requested a room overlooked the alps..it was magnificent.. the room was spacious and clean. we walked around town got to the ski lift to get to the top of the mountain but it was close. ski lift close at 5pm.

Room Tip: overlooking the alps

When we arrived in the early evening it was a cute building in the rear of a residential area just past the town. The restaurant was only serving 2 dishes which were not to our liking, so we went out to eat. The room was cozy and clean with a nice little balcony facing the Alps and a little kitchen area and very small bathroom.

The mattress ended up being a bit stiff, but the train AIR HORN started at 5AM and blasted every 20 minutes right under the window, which ruined our stay! This was a deal breaker and we luckily only stayed for the 1 night. The reception acted like they didn't know about the train when we mentioned it in the morning.

The morning breakfast was basic European buffet style, but they did offer boiled and scrambled eggs. Fitness room is very small. Did not see the sauna.

Room Tip: The Train horn is a VERY loud single burst every 20 minutes starting at 5AM!!!

We found the Alpenrose to be in a good location for a one night stopover en route to Mad King Ludwig' s Castle at Neuschwenstein. Although situated on the edge of a residential area the hotel is quiet. It is very comfortable and our room nice and clean. It is a 15 minute walk to the town. You don't need a car unless you are from the USA and have lost the use of your legs. There are at least three good restaurants in town if you can't eat at the Alpenrose.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the service road which was not a problem. We could see the Alps and ski slopes q...

The pictures would make you think that this hotel is in a meadow, overlooking the Alps. The truth is, it's in a new development outside a small town (you'll need a car) right next to other hotels and housing with views of the parking lot below.

Rooms are dark and dreary and there's nobody on duty after 6 p.m. Billiard room and sauna, which were supposed to be available, were locked up. Breakfast is between 8 and 9:30 a.m. and consisted of yesterday's leftovers. It's not that the hotel staff was rude, it's just that it felt like they didn't want to be inconvenienced in any way.

All in all, a pretty depressing place. We packed up a day early, forfeited a night's stay, and went elsewhere. It was worth it.

(On a bright note, the Post-Brauerei in downtown Nesselwang was a nice place for dinner.)

Our research gave the impression that this was a nicely set traditional hotel however it was located unsually in a residential area next to a train line. The room was quite large but basic. The bathroom was very small and it took us sometime to discover that the hot water service in the bathroom had been turned off, making for some very cold attempts at having a shower. With the temperature peaking at 8 degrees outside it set a rather chilled mood. We did not get to experience breakfast at the hotel because we had an early start but they did have a cafe service that allowed us to have a coffee during the afternoon. Many hotels we have stayed at in Europe have a very limited coffee availability.
