A colleague who travels a lot in Bavaria turned us on to the local hotel. Your hosts, Toni and Herta will make you feel welcome as you experience breathtaking views of the countryside. There is a 1-lane road leading to the summit that is open to go up 45 minutes of every hour. You can only depart the summit from 5 minutes before the hour to 10 minutes past the hour every hour. We've determined the reason for this is that once to arrive, you never want to leave. Our room was huge even by American standards. We relaxed in the spa upstairs and off in the distance you could see Neuschwanstein (below you). We enjoyed a dinner that served some of the most tender wild game I have ever had. Breakfast was an elaborate buffet with everything one could possibly want. Can't wait to go back someday!

This is a stunning hotel once you do the steep climb to the hotel up a very narrow road but the hotel is stunning and beautifully presented.

We arrived and they have made a reservation for dinner for us in their restaurant whihc if the mist had cleared would have have fantastic views and thankfully it did on the morning we left and the views of the mountains were stunning.

The food was excellent both for dinner and breakfast.

The decor was great and nice touches all around the place.

This is a perfect hotel for a getaway

High in the mountains was our hotel for 3 nights in May. You start ascending a narrow road which halfway up becomes a one lane twisty curvy experience. This was the summit where King Ludwig planned to build another castle and the ruins are only a few feet away. The view from our room was amazing. The owners were very welcoming and everyone was very helpful. The breafast buffet was extensive and the restaurant menu seemed just as good, but we always returned late and didn't have the opportunity to dine. I'm assuming we were given the "romantic" suite. Bear skin rugs on the floor and a jacuzzi off to the side. Did I mention the mirror over the water bed and lights above and under the bed? Never did get use to the roadway, but what a special experience and the perfect place to stay when castle hopping.

We stayed 2 nights in July as a base to visit the castles and Fussen - a great choice. The location is unique in its own right being at the very top of its own mini mountain so even when we weren't touring we felt we were somewhere special.

I think the rooms take their inspiration from King Ludwig though! The hallway resembles a grotto and the rooms are bordering on kitsch - incredibly comfortable though and some (ours) with amazing valley views. One minor complaint was that the piped music which permeated the hallways was turned to max volume at 1.00 in the morning (accidentally we presume!)

Service was good - the owners are lovely - however the other staff were perhaps less friendly.

The restaurant was brilliant - we had a wonderful meal on our first night. Breakfast was equally impressive.

Overall a unique experience - we would definitely stay again.

My husband and I just spent a weekend here in October. The hotel was beautiful and the views were amazing. We had great weather and this is a wonderful place to stay to do the castles and Fussen. We loved the hotel. Breakfast was absolutely delicious each morning and dining on the patio with Falkenstein and the Alps in the background was breathtaking. Can't say enough good things about the hotel and the staff. As a note, the road becomes a one way mountan street to the hotel that is regulated by a light. It took us a few times to figure out the time constraints. Just be sure to understand the timing so that you don't have to wait 30 minutes or so to get in/out.

Room Tip: Ask for a view.
