Had a great 5 night stay here at the of January 2013. This hotel/pension is excellent value for money at about £30 pppn. The breakfast is standard continental but with plenty of choice and the offer of a boiled egg every day if you fancied one, certainly enough to set you up for a days skiing or exploring. Rooms were very comfortable and the place in general was very clean, we didn't take up the option of the evening meals as we were holidaying with others based elsewhere in Ruhpolding. We were the only English staying there at the time which I actually enjoyed as you got a real feeling of being abroad and experiencing Bavaria. Breakfast in the conservatory looking out to the surrounding snow covered mountains was a lovely treat. Host Boris was a charming man and very welcoming and helpful, taking time out to explain local attractions and landmarks and what you got with the free xtra pass that came with the booking. The pass gave you a free cable car ride up nearby Rauschberg mountain which if visited on a clear day then the views from the top are spectacular and is a great day out with a restaurant there to enjoy a beer or a meal. I even ventured to walk back down to Ruhpolding which if you like waking and feel a little adventurous is a lovely walk, not too demanding and took me 3 hours. Xtra pass gave you free entrance to local swimming baths with its wave machine, a steam room and the novelty of a heated outdoor pool where you can look up to the mountains and all the snow whilst sat in your trunks in a jacuzzi, well worth doing in an afternoon. You also got free ice skating (although not skate hire), a ski pass to a nearby ski range and free parking in the town centre, overall very handy. Ruhpolding itself is a quaint Bavarian town with a very local taste to it, although I think the recession has kicked in a little. I noticed a couple of the shops have closed and it was very quiet the Sunday afternoon when we had a saunter round a couple of the hostileries, almost eerie but still enjoyable. To sum up, would I recommend the Traunbachhaeusl and would I stay there again? most definately...
