“5 nights-2nd visit-2 rooms-Handicap accessible-Convenient Parking”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

I booked two rooms again this year at the Hotel Wildermann - this is my 1st choice for convenience. The rooms are a bit dated but they were in the process of remodeling and have renovated a few of the rooms with flat screen TVs and granite counters.
Because the rooms are so tiny and the mattresses are 6" foam which i find uncomfortable - I checked out two other hotels in the city (Hotel Golden Ochsen & Aschaffenburg Hof). I had a single room and a double room which were adequate.
For convenience - this is a more suitable choice over the Hotel Golden Ochsen or the Aschaffenburg Hof hotel in the Altstadt. From the wildermann, you can walk to the schloss, shopping, dining, etc... From the bridge, you have an excellent view of the Schloss in all its glory over the Main River.
Traveling with my mother who uses a walker, the Wildermann hotel has an elevator and only 2 steps to enter the breakfast room. Compare to The Golden Ochsen which has no elevator and very limited street parking with cobblestones. The Hotel Aschaffenburg Hof has a small elevator, large hallways but the room sizes aren't any bigger than the Wildermann, it was a bit more expensive and entering the hotel is less accessible because it's a one-way driving entrance/exit. The restaurant at the Hof I've heard better reviews about but for a handicap person, there are approx. 7 steps to enter so it is awkward and less accessible.

One thing the Wildermann has that also makes it my first choice is a sauna located on the 2nd floor. WE only used it once but the facilty is free to guests, has lockers, change room, resting room, two dry saunas and a wet sauna. Nothing like a sauna for getting over jetlag to have a restful sleep. There is also a massage area which i didn't use but the prices seemed average and it would have been great to have a reflexology treatment but there was no one on duty. Unsure if you have to book in advance as they may only come in when there are appointments.

When you exit the hotel, look up at the terrace across from the hotel. The owners live at the top and the herbs, veges grown on the terrace garden are used at the restaurant. Wildermann does the best job of marketing their property and have several other properties in their family-run business. Wildermann is a good "business travel" hotel and convenient. This is not a destination hotel - if you want luxury check out the spessart hotels. I have family/friends in the area and the Wildermann is my top choice of the Aschaffenburg city hotels. The wildermann is a hotel that by the 2nd day - sometimes even the 1st day - the desk staff will greet you by name and already know which room you're in so they can pull the room key from the board.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the busy road. I haven't stayed in the summer but these rooms like all the a...

Found this hotel on a board on the outskirts of town when we decided to stop on our road trip.
Were really surprised by how nice it all was and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Good value for money, and they leave jelly bears on every bed.

My husband and I were bicycling the Maintal route and deceided to splurge on a 4 star hotel on the 7th night of our trip. Unfortunately, our room faced the main street which was very noisy all night long -- choose a break from the road noise and end up with stale, hot, stiffling air. Neither choice is good for sleeping. The internal courtyard is pleasant but is taken over by smokers so not nice for others. Also smoke pervaded hallways. The price for this room was absurd given what we paid elsewhere throughout our trip, even ncluding in Mainz. Services offered by this hotel may push it into the 4 star category but not all rooms match 4 star expectations. Why don't hotels invest in air exchange systems and why isn't this and street noise a criterion for star rankings?

Room Tip: Find out rate for room not facing street.

Very convenient to Aschaffenburg city center, shopping and restaurants. I had only booked my stay for 3 nights but extended it another 2nights. Traveling with my elderly mother who had her own room she found she could manage easily with her walker, the elevator and easy route to parking lot was superb. My little room had everything i needed and the window opened to a courtyard - no view.
Nicely accessorized in common area with detailed Easter decorations, kitschey and charming.
For the price including breakfast it was more than adequate, clean and I would stay again. The mattress isn't the most comfortable but the big fluffy duvets are dreamlike.
After only a couple of days, the staff recognized me coming and going. They spoke English well and went above and beyond to accommadate requests.

Breakfast and service was excellent - they even include things that aren't on the buffet made-to-order. You can order cappuccino, eggs etc... The coffee is excellent! The front desk even went so far as to locate me and bring the telephone to me in the restaurant when I received a morning phone call. that was service above and beyond!

On the 2nd floor there was an ancient computer where you could have 15minutes free but the service was so slow like dial-up. When I complained to frontdesk they said that most people are using smartphones or bring laptop. Traveling from abroad, I had neither with me but they offered to let me use their front desk computer for high-speed connections. i didn't want to inconvenience them to ck my emails but wasn't that a nice offer to remedy the problem?

The restaurant is excellent - a bit pricey but nice ambience and beautiful delicious food. Pricey relative to US - but hey our dollar was only worth 65cents when converting to euros in april 2011.

Good location and very nice dinner in the attached restaurant. A bit chopped up with various sections added to the hotel. Rooms are in serious need of remodeling. Great staff.
