We had a brief one night stay here in June 201 (room 111). Uberfahrt (which mans "crossing") may not be a likely candidate for an international brand rollout to English-speaking counties any time soon, but it is a perfectly sensible name in German. It is situated by the pretty lake Teegensee about an hour south of Munich. This is a popular spot for German tourists, as it is particularly pretty, and there are large numbers of hotels along the lake shore. This one is a luxury hotel owned by a small up-market hotel chain.

Our room was large and had a pleasant view over the gardens at the back, and had its own balcony with loungers. The bed was comfortable, the room spotlessly clean and the bathroom large, with a good walk-in shower, so large that it had a bench seat. It conveniently had a decent number of electrical sockets at waist height, saving the need to go crawling around the floor if you need to recharge your phone. At check-in in the staff, dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes, were friendly, and our luggage appeared in our room very quickly. It is quite a large hotel, so this is not the kind of place where the staff remember your name, but it works quite efficiently. It has four restaurants, including Germany's latest three start Michelin restaurant, added in the 2014 guide, with chef Christian Jurgens.

Warning: This will not be a positive review. I attended a conference for two days at the hotel. Though I live 30 minutes from the hotel I chose to stay overnight. The hotel is located at the end of a winding road and is heavily populated just on the lake. The hotel is a U shape and is an imposing steel and glass structure, which is out of place for a Bavarian town. The lobby is marble, large with gold fixtures and trim. It immediately reminded me of the large gody Dubai hotels you see in luxury magazines. I was expecting to see older wealthy men with their 20 year old silicon wives wandering the lobby..... At check in the staff were dressed in traditional "trachten" which was fitting for Bavaria and they were friendly. The lift up to the room was all mirror with gold trim, the "ick" factor is underway at this point. Once I figured out how to unlock the door with the electronic card I was transformed into a world of Greek/Arabic mixed decor. The room and bathroom were large. The decor was really off putting though. I could not see beyond the gold fixtures in the bathroom and the American style hotel bed covering, "Big Ick"! The furnishings were perfect, if you are 80..... It wasn't really set up for working. The desk didn't have a proper chair to sit in and had old style phone jacks for a laptop. This would be ideal for those of you who still use dial-up modems to sync email.... The WiFi was ok at best. The curtains could be drawn with various automatic buttons. Completely unnecessary for a room this size. The bathroom had a separate marble shower with fixtures which didn't work properly and were broken. In the end the room was all "show" and lacked quality.

Pro:

Location, I guess

Con:

Building was out of place
Interior was really gody
Room decor was really tacky
Staff were neutral at best
Price / value

To summarize this was a real disappointment. Though I am use to designer and boutique hotels this was just really tacky and "icky". What really put me off was in the end it was all show and really didn't deliver a unique experience. Next year I will stay at a local Pension.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting, just wished I had a little more time to spend looking around town. Good food, friendly service...just a first class hotel. Had no problems with the wi-fi. Would love to come back

This place is popular for business meetings, congresses and such. And for good reason: it is located in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany. The surroundings of this hotel are absolutely picture perfect. Even before the guests arrive, they'll feel good. The drive from Munich airport to Uberfahrt is a joy!

At the reception, German is the main language and the staff will always address you in German. However, when one replies in English the staff will switch to English.

While I did not eat at the restaurant, I did have breakfast in the hotel. The selection is amazing and quality of the ingredients is excellent.

The rooms are huge and the high ceilings give an even greater feeling of space. The half-circular window again adds to the feeling of staying in a big room. The decor is classic, with some oddities. For example the bathroom has twinkly stars in the ceiling and red'ish mood lighting. Weird.

During my stay many things were broken or otherwise disfunctional:
1. The hotel has two wifi networks. One is located in the central lobby and worked just fine. The one for use in the rooms didn't reach my room since I had a corner room. Other guests reported the room-wifi network was dead slow.
2. The television offers almost 300 channels, of which about a 100 actually work. It is like having a vast menu and finding out the chef doesn't know how to prepare half of it. Either offer working TV channels or don't offer them at all.
3. The extra lock on my door did not work.
4. The temperature in the room can be set "colder" and "warmer". It cannot be set to a certain temperature, nor can the airconditioning be turned off.
5. The bed doesn't just have a headrest, but also a "footrest". In my case it meant I did not fit in the bed since I could not lay down in it with my foot sticking out as I usually do. The only solution was to sleep diagonally, which is no problem when staying solo. If you're with your spouse the short / limited bed might turn out to be a real problem.

While I enjoyed my stay for business, the many flaws would be a reason not to stay in this hotel if I had to pay for it myself. At these prices one comes to expect perfection and it seems like this hotel needs another try to reach perfection.

This time stayed at Seehotel Überfahrt for a congress. Excellent organisation and service. Outstanding food. Beautiful location between blue lake and snowcapped mountains. One of the most recommended places in Germany to meet for business and "people connecting". (Of course, also for spa and relaxation.)

My experience in the hotel would have been perfect except for two things

- the room service menu did not at all match the food offered in the restaurants downstairs and the restaurants refused to deliver - not a good idea, given that the service in a restaurant (any of the three) is excessively formal and slow. The room service menu, in my opinion, should be expanded, it is essential for people staying in a hotel for longer periods, like myself, to be able to get adequate food without having to always dine in public.

- terrible small gym. Apparently, just put there as a pre-requisite to 5 star status of the hotel without actually thinking about making a nice gym

Make sure not to get the rooms with "mountain view" - I got the lake view room. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator to come down I saw what basically amounted to an (abandoned?) construction site int eh back of the hotel. Would have been dreadful to have a view like this.

The price-quality ratio is perfect. Overall, I had a nice impression and will gladly come back one day.

I travel a lot for work and I often find myself looking for efficiency and convenience in hotels. Spending so many nights in hotels has taken the shine off the hotel experience for me and I am not easily wowed. I stayed in this hotel during a business trip and I caught myself actually enjoying the whole stay. The lovely room, the fantastic staff and the guests, that seemed so nice and friendly and, just like me, seemed to just enjoy the whole experience.

Thanks very much to the hotel team! I really had a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Choose a Lake View room, as it is lovely to be able to open the curtains of those huge windows and g...
