“German charm, close to ParkStrasse”
Reviewed 30 October 2011

We stayed 4 nights while visiting family in nearby Oppershofen. Originally we had booked at Hotel Arabella, but they emailed us to say that their heat went out, so they sent us to Hotel Spoettel which was owned by another member of their family. Hotel Spoettel is located in a charming and safe neighborhood in an old building. When we arrived, they were helpful and gave us a map of the Bad Nauheim area. However, I was happy my husband spoke German, as it may have been a little challenging to conduct the conversation in English. The lobby is quaint, charming and warm - on Sunday morning they even had a live piano player. We had a large suite, I think because of the move from the Hotel Arabella - it had an extra room with a single bed. The room was very spacious and had an updated shower and bathroom. The double bed was actually two single beds pushed together which I think is typical German fashion. The pillows were lacking in fluff and were quite lumpy. You could tell the areas in the room which had been updated (shower, sink, heating elements), but the decor was typical German - yellow walls, peach floral comforter covers, floral carpeting and large wooden wardrobes. The morning breakfast buffet is included and it was awesome. There were pastries, meat, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, fruit, jams, granola and even some bacon - definitely a value. We couldn't get our computer to work on their free wifi, but they do provide a public computer for guest use, so that worked just fine. The area around the hotel is very safe - we felt comfortable parking the rental car on the street and even walked back from the ParkStrasse late in the evening and felt completely safe. It is a very convenient location close to the Bad Nauheim train station, bath sites and shopping area.

very welcoming and helpful staff, large rooms in an older yet very charming building. Great breakfast buffet and a good location within the city of Bad Nauheim. a place to relax and feel at home, somewhat different to the big hotel chain and therefore even more enjoyable.

This is a charming small hotel close to the park and a 10 minute stroll to the centre. Old fashioned rooms nicely finished and very clean. Free wi-fi. Beautifully laid out breakfast. Staff all very friendly and keen to be be of service. They even brought me a free cup of tea whilst I used their wi-fi in the lobby during the afternoon AFTER I had checked out. Hotel has no car park but parking on the street outside was easy with plenty of spaces and also no parking meters. I planned to stay only one night but decided to stay another night here as such exceptional value and Bad Nauheim is a very pleasant small town.

What do the Romanovs and Elvis Presley have in common: Bad Nauheim. I had wanted to stay at Dolce Bad Nauheim but it was booked out by a conference. This was my second choice, courtesy of Trip Advisor. We stayed for a couple of nights and found it to be a pleasant experience.

Hotel Spoettel is in easy walking distance of the station. It is located in one of the grand, early C20 mansions that dominate the town. On the plus side it is run by a family who are very helpful. It is very clean and of a good standard. We had Rm 303 which was a bedroom and a separate lounge room with a little bar fridge and a tiny balcony with a lovely roof top view. Bad Nauheim was COLD and this hotel is warm and it offers a large, downstairs lounge.

On the negative side the hotel only looks grand on the outside. Inside it is without most of its original features: it's mainly artex walls and 1970s refurb. The TV has a lot of cable stations but there wasn't one in English. No tea making facilities as per most European hotels but there is no after hours cafe or shop nearby. I was furious that our room had a broken blind (the building has external metal roller blind) and so light poured into our room from 5.30am. This seemed unnecessary as the hotel was almost empty when we stayed there. However, later that morning, sitting downstairs in the pretty basement with a delightful breakfast with everything (eggs, pastries, fruit, milk) fresh, drinking a good strong cup of coffee while listening to the King sing in the background I thought that it was a pretty nice place.

Bad Nauheim is a spa town, located a quick train trip from Frankfurt. It is a small, beautifully designed town, famous for the amazing spa which was created by the brother of the last Tsarina. It is also where Elvis Presley did his military service in Germany in the 50s. The town is also notable for its grand architecture, health treatments and nice shops and restaurants. The town regularly welcomes Elvis pilgrims.

Family friendly hotel with a keen front door person and an obliging kitchen staff. Excellent value and excellent location. Parking ( we came and went several times a day ) was never more than a block away if not right in front of the hotel. One needed to step up slightly into our particular room's shower ( which might be challenging to elderly ) but the shower was comfortable ( the first shower for my three year old son - he loved it ! ) and room was spotless and beds were large and comfortable. I loved the down comforters and oversized pillows. There is an elevator which my son loved and many European photograhs displayed on the walls. I felt that the owners were accustomed to travel and knew how to treat other travellers as well. Our family liked the Spoettel. We stayed a week.
