The view is lovely, the walk is steep. Weekends are busy with locals and tourists both. Would recommend for good exercise.

I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was relatively quiet; you can see that they have facilities for holding special events and feeding visitors normally. You can climb up one of the two towers for a spectacular view of the Rheingau.

Very interesting old Castle, with a lot of history. I went there with business associates for a dinner. The food was all ordered and prepared in advance and.

There wasn't much of a tour of the castle, but we did drink Meade and some other wine outside on the castle grounds by a fire before dinner, which was cold but fun.

The dinner was run by a very entertaining spokesman for the Castle, who spoke very good English. He gave everyone in the group individual challenges, one at a time, to perform in front of the group. Some challenges were prearranged skits, while others were just silly. He encouraged full group involvement, and the entire group was fully engaged.

It was a great night - very memorable. We got a free handmade mug to take with us with the Schloss Auerbach name on it.

I HIGHLY recommend this for a group. A word of warning, there are some activities that might be more embarrassing to some Americans than would be for a German - for example, kissing your boss on the cheek.

The schloss stands proud at the top of the hill and can be seen for miles as you approach it.
The road up to Schloss Auerbach is a great cork screw ride going round and round as you climb the hill through trees, the car park is just short of the Schloss around 200yds/meters up a steep hill (not a easy push for a wheel chair or pram).
The castle was originally built by King Charlemagne the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, so it is getting on a bit, You can explore the walls and climb to the top of the battlements (that is if you have a head for heights.)
The schloss is a venue for wedding and during our visit there was a wedding taking place with all the guests dressed in medieval costume which was a great sight, they also do medieval performances with a meal thrown in
There is a good café on sight with a balcony with miles great views across the surrounding countryside
Would I recommend it well yes we have been a number of times when we have been in the area.

While driving on the autobahn near Frankfurt, we saw a castle on a hilltop and then passed a sign for Schloss Auerbach. I quick looked it up on my iphone, and to make a long story short, we took a detour to see it up close, and we were so glad we did. It's another one of Germany's old castles that's in pretty good shape, and it's not crowded like some of the more famous castles are. Besides going into the open courtyard, you can climb up steps to a balcony for gorgeous views and photo ops. There's a snack bar and they sell some souvenirs. They also periodically have medieval-type festivals there. I do not recommend this site to physically handicapped individuals as the walk from the parking area (free parking) to the castle is very steep, and to get into the castle you have to climb several old stone steps. It's a nice place for a family or couples to visit.
