“School Trip”
Reviewed 14 November 2012

For anyone who is going on a school trip and reads the majority of these reviews, ignore them. They are completely wrong! The food is average but certainly not bad! The rooms are fine, the beds are relatively comfortable! Yes, the toilet roll is a bit dodgy, but bring your own! Greta wasn't too bad, as long as you didn't try to annoy her. I think the biggest problem here is that most students are expecting the Ritz, and then when they don't get it, aren't happy.

Similar comments to my review from last year. Second year we have gone to this hotel (with 68 year 11 students and 8 teachers). Food all fine, rooms all good and even toilet roll not bad. Greta was more calmer with us this year as she knew us from last year. The pupils and the staff all agreed that we had a wonderful 5 day trip. The location for this trip is superb.
I really can't understand the terrible reviews although maybe going in late October helps as it is only us there which may help.

See you next year.

This is not a hotel, its a hostel. Its food is processed, soggy and served to you by staff who if you refuse something mutter in german about you. We had soup for starters every night, this was bland and for desert fruit salad, i found several hairs in mine. At around ten pm me and my friends were still awake when we heard knocking from the hotels owner, she was yelling at us to go to sleep! I personally feel this is rude and i wouldn't expect it from even a one star hotel. Our room's facilitys where poor, with a terrible TV, the worst shower i have ever been in and sandpaper toilet roll it wasn't very pleasant. Our view was of the incredibly noisy train track opposite the hotel but in general the scenery is beautiful. Overall i would never stay in this crap 'hotel' again.

I stayed for only one night at this poor hotel.
The attitude of the hotel staff is a problem - they simply chase the Customers away.
The hotelmroom was the smalest hotel room I have ever experienced and for the cost of 55 EUR
It was certainly not worth the money. I will never stay at this hotel in the future.

When we arrived after a 12 hour journey we wanted to freshen up but were told we had to eat immediately! The food was appalling-processed and overcooked with no choice.
The rooms were OK and any faults were repaired, but this is more like a hostel than a hotel. There are no facilities, and it was fortunate that we spent little time in the hotel. I took a group of 43 children who were all very well behaved, but at 9.55pm one evening one of the staff burst into our talent show ( I'd booked a room previously- we had a basement far away from anyone!) and said we must be silent by 10pm!!!! The owner softened when she realised that we were quite a nice group-not the brats she was expecting!!

Overall the hotel was terrible, the rooms were worse than I thought. Firstly we had alot of insects in our room, the windows were unable to shut properly which didnt help with the mosquitos and rhine fly, coming in at night, so I ended up sleeping on the floor in the next room after the first night. The beds however, were like sleeping on rocks, very uncomfortable, so it didn't make much difference. You were forbiden to open the windows and with no air conditioning in the hotel, we were always baking hot. It didn't help that it was the end of July with tempetatures going as high as 34 degrees! Our bathroom was horrific. Our toilet and shower had visable signs of dirt and our shower was blocked so for the first two days we were without a proper shower. When we were able to use the shower, we had no hot water. The so called toilet paper was actually like sandpaper,I was lucky enough to read previous reviews and brought my own.
The food provided was just about bareable. For your breakfast you had cornflakes and orange juice which was basic but fine. Lunch was a roll with either ham, cheese or jam, a piece of fruit and a biscuit. Dinner was a cheap packet soup which tasted of salt, a bit of meat and vegetables and potato of some sort and a desert which I didnt want to try!
It's location was lovely, over looking the Rhine on one side! The other side a very busy train track!
I enjoyed my school trip because of the days out, not because of the hotel. It was lucky that we weren't in our hotel much!

Room Tip: A rhine view is better.
