Our stay in this hotel was great. Rooms were very nice and cosy. Service in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast as well. Thank you very much! This proved, that star count of the hotel is irrelevant.

We stayed after the New Years holiday, during which this entire area is pretty much closed down. This hotel had good sized rooms, very cozy and old fashioned styling. Breakfast was excellent, though the same restaurant is closed for lunch and dinner. Due to the winter closure of the hotel restaurant, you have to go a few blocks down the road to what appeared to be the only open restaurant in Bernkastel. Regardless, we had a nice and quiet stay. The hotel staff was friendly and accomodating.

Room Tip: If your room is not to your liking, simply ask for something different.

We stayed there during the Christmas Market. Hotel was right in the centre of the town.
Very traditional which was what we wanted. Rooms were decorated in a basic traditional way definitely not modern. Very clean and beds were comfy. Shower was excellent though decor was not to our taste. Breakfast very plentiful with lots of choice. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Overall we have no complaints and would go back.

Room Tip: Lift only goes to 4th of 5 floors.

First the good points: a lovely old building and an excellent breakfast buffet. However, we were disappointed with the rooms and the attitudes of some of the staff.
We had two rooms. Our friend's room, no. 41 (booked for single occupancy) had 3 single beds arranged around the walls giving a very overcrowded impression. Our room (42) was a standard double. It was badly in need of maintenance, especially in the bathroom. The toilet seat was not just cracked, it was broken right across. The light above the sink did not work and the sink was very slow to empty. The shower fitting was broken: however many times we pushed it up and tightened it, the fitting still slipped down to its lowest point. The water did not maintain a steady temperature and kept going dangerously hot. In the bedroom the carpet was shabby. One curtain hung down at the end from a missing hook. Storage space for clothes was just a curtained-off area. The TV was advertised as satellite but only got local channels. All in all, the rooms were not the standard expected of a hotel in this price range.
Soon after we arrived we ordered drinks. Service was slow but when the waitress took our money she never came back with an offer of change - obviously she thought she had earned a 40% tip. We did not eat dinner in the hotel.
Apart from one girl (longish blond hair and glasses) who was very pleasant and helpful, we found the rest of the staff unfriendly. At checkout I queried the fact that our single friend was paying exactly the same breakfast-included room rate even though she only ate one breakfast. My request was just ignored.
Bernkastel is a lovely place and we shall return - but not to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first - don't accept a shabby one.

Very nice hotel situated into a building of 1600, in the very center of Bernkastel. The room was clean and quite big, maybe it would have required some renovation but it was nice enough. Breakfast is very rich and offers a lot of choices. Don't miss the restaurant and the tasteful Doctor Wein. Moreover the staff is kind and helpful and they also offer a very comfortable and affordable transfer-service from/to Frankfurt - Hann airport.
