PK Parkhotel Kurhaus
Ranked #6 of 11 Hotels in Bad Kreuznach
Reviewed 15 December 2013

A lovely setting in the kurpark and a storied history, at least fro Bad Kreuznach, the hotel has the potential to be magical. Yet the late 70's renovation dulls the charm of the property. Not in a major market there is not much high end competition. I think after many years I may need to try the other hotel in town; I do love the parkhaus but from the exterior. There is nothing outright terrible about anything; it is just dated and very evident. The staff is perfectly pleasant but there is nothing outstanding about the hotel. It has so much potential to be so much more, but then the market isnt really there for the money needed to truly restore the property. So as it has in years prior it shall muddle on, perfectly adequate but only just.

Listening to a 3 piece band in the park right in front of the hotel, watching at least 15 couples dancing to the tune of the 50's and 60's while sipping on a glass of wine in the afternoon is a true treat for mind and soul.
The room of this 100 year old grand establishment ( staying already one week ) is OK. i have a single room, the double rooms are great with a private balcony. The breakfast is superb and a great place to get back some energy after my daily swimm in the Bäderhaus solebad. A salty hot Spring Usedom by The Romans more than 2000 years ago. Use the room key for the direct access bridge to this indoor/ outdoor spa.

I stayed in this hotel by chance. Meeting over-ran, queued at Strasborg - I had to find a room.

The hotel was built in 1930 and is a German Art Deco hotel which was once the height of luxury. It has remained intact, undamaged by wars, accountants and corporate vandals. The corridors are the width of a country lane, there is a sweeping marble double staircase, my single room was huge, with a balcony. "Double" rooms I have stayed in London would fit into the bathroom that I had. The hotel has been upgraded with modernization of the plumbing in the bathroom, and that always leaves marks, but the bathroom remains eseentially what it was when it was built. My room was well decorated with colours and fixtures that fitted in well with the style of the hotel, I had plenty of chance to admire it as I ended up working until 3am on their (free) WIFI, which worked very well.

The breakfast room was a simply glorious salon with the relaxed and spacious proportions of that era. The breakfast was very ggod, and for once in Germany, they had decent coffee.

Another reviewer has said that the hotel is getting 'tired'. There is a little justice in that. The carpets in the main rooms do show discolouration on the main foot tracks and similarly on the stair way. However, when these expensive hotels are new they reek of money and arrorgance, and I don't like them. The arrogance has gone and one can simply enjoy the excellence of so much of the fitting out of the hotel.

If I want a hotel in the area I will go out of my way to re-visit.

Stayed here Sep 1th and 13th. The Domina was very comfortable and had a great breakfast. We also enjoyed the grounds preceding the Hotel, they are beautiful. The hotel also offers many trails to enjoy if you enjoy morning or afternoon walks. The Curch Bells from St Pauls at different times od day were awesome. The staff was attentive, very helpful and friendly. Met the hotel manager at breakfast on our last day, he was a very nice man and invited us back next year to help celebrate thier 100th anniversary. We may take him up on his invitation!!! A must stay in Bad Kreuznach...

Having stayed at the Kurhaus numerous times over a 40 year span, what was once a gem among hotels is a tired hotel in need of renovation and good management. We had a nice non-smoking room on the second floor, overlooking the park. Our carpet had several cigarette burns and numerous stains. A large common terrace off our room allows a nice place to relax. However, the flower boxes were full of cigareete butts, trash and weeds. The flowers were in need of caring also. In the morning we went for breakfast early, almost the frist ones, and upon seating my chair was full of crumbs, as was the floor from the previous nights meal. Upon checking out(busiest time for a hotel) there was only one person at the desk, waiting on a businessman who was faxing numerous pages. After a lengthly wait, and without a greeting or smile the youg lady processed us out. Poor sevice and attention to detail in what was a 'gem'.

Stayed there for two nights and was not disappointed. If you are looking for flawless wifi and other modern gimmicks, this is not the place for you, but if you are into historic buildings were statesmen of the last century had their meetings (Adenauer, De Gaulle, and a few decades earlier Atatürk) and if you like a promenade concert in the afternoon on the well kept grounds, I would recommand the Domina.
Rooms show a little wear and tear, and the bathroom reminded of what was fashionable in the eighties. Although there was no aircon, our (north-facing) room remained quite cool. Parking comes at a reasonable 12,- EUR per 24 h.
Pricewise, it pays to shop around at the various providers cooperating with tripadvisor as the price differences were quite huge.
Almost forgot to add that the breakfast buffet is excellent and that no extra charge is asked for espresso coffee. Moreover the area is quiet and yet pretty close to the city center.
