The preservation of this castle is amazing, a lot of history behind it and definitely worth the extra money to pay for the tour. It's a lot of info so if you're not into history you might find it boring.

Very butifull castle! Inside and outside. Outstanding view!
Unfortunately falkony demonstration in German only. Boring without understand any explanation. Overall the visit was nice for us, but boring for our teenagers kids.

Reichsburg is the proverbial castle on the hill. The interior is a hodge-podge of historical eras - some very iconic castle stuff. Gaining access to a tour of the castle can be very stressful if you are in Cochem on a busy holiday or weekend. Your time would be better spent enjoying the views of the town and the river, walking the cobblestone streets, and sampling the local wine.

Take the beautiful scenic path up to the castle to catch the 11 a.m. falconry show (no shows Monday). Although mostly in German with a little English thrown in, it’s the birds and their antics that make this show eminently worthwhile. The castle itself is basically a 19th-century remodel. If you can’t get enough of castle interiors, opt for the tour (in German only, but with a helpful English info sheet).

We visited the castle in June 2014 and it was amazing, although it was really hot and had we known there was a shuttle bus we wouldn't have walked to it! There was a wedding on too when we got there which was lovely. You have to book on a tour, which was in German, but they do offer you a written guide in English (amongst other languages).
Definitely worth a visit for the amazing views, even if you don't go into the castle.
