“Nice Stay at Timmendorferstrand.”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

The hotel offers good service for reasonable price. We stayed there with a groop and made a lot of trips around. The location is also near to the shops and bars in the center of Timmendorferstrand. Hope to visit the hotel again.

overall one of my best vacations. i personally think this is the one best hotel all along that whole timmendorf bay. the two pools (salt water in- and outdoors) are priceless. the breakfast buffet is absolutely wonderful with so many choices of food you can have a different style of breakfast every day. and the food tastes delicious, breakfast or dinner.
the employees are very friendly and extremely helpful, they even put up a card table for us in the lounge so we could play doppelkopf every night!
yes, the hotel is old and it shows, you do get that 70ties feeling and if you travel alone and pay full price...... i was part of a bus travel-package and thus satisfied.
drawbacks: no wifi, and only one old PC in the business center. and only two elevators for 234 rooms and 7 penthouses - you better get on your stair-master before you go!
but in a nutshell: i'd go back any day!

NOISY!!! If you plan to go here to have a relaxing and quiet holiday, forget it! The hotel has an excellent location, good food and great service. But the rooms are without a/c so you have to leave the the door to the terrace open. The hotel plays loud music that was measured to above 80db i our room in 9th floor (!). First it stops at 11pm, and then fireworks until 11.30 followed by endless partying by companies staying at the hotel. The kids are completely exhaused after a few days, and we still have some days left... And reading the other comments - we are not the only ones with this experience.

With friends ( 4 adults + 2 teeenagers ) we spent a short W.E at this hotel superbly located ; gastronomy is very good ( dinner or breakfast buffet , in terms of quality, service & quantity ).
The SPA section is very complete , from medium high level ; unfortunately the indoor pool & surroundings were not clean ( chairs , armchairs with spider's web everywhere ! ) morover the outdoor pool was under reconstruction & not open ; no one sent us a message explaining about the situation ( despite the fact that one of the us is a Maritim hotel member ) Bedrooms need a complete refurbishment to be in line with modern standards ( windows to access terrace not easy too handle , not enough sound proof , TV of another age , fortunately good bedding ) Internet access is charged extra ! Not even connection in the lobby ! Only 2 elevators for about 250 rooms ; just imagine the bottle neck during peak times !Please value your existing assets
;-) Hotel with great potential if reviewed.

Room Tip: Plenty of light in all rooms

The restaurant decor and some rooms are definitely retro 1970s, which in itself is not necessarily a drawback, just a little pompous and outdated. The breakfast buffet had everything that you could imagine was exellent. The evening meals were lovely as well. The location of the hotel was great - about 50 meters walk to the beach and a 2 minute walk to the main shopping street. Many nice and exellent shops! The Spa facility is brand new, you'll swim in warm salty water in very large pools (inside and outside with 28°C), it has different saunas, a steam bath and an ice fountain. Its one of the best spas in the area. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. A great, partly oldfashioned (rooms), hotel. We will come back!!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the waterfront are unique.

i stayed there in august 2012 for a couple of nights for a business trip, accomodation and half-board were paid by the company, i had to cover the rest for myself. let me briefly sum up my experiences there:

- the maritim seehotel is THE hotel in timmendorfer strand, it has obviously been the place for the german noblesse to stay in the 1970ies and it has maintained the character of that time...
- the bathroom definetely meet modern standards, but the room furniture and decoration has the flair of times gone by, a proper refurnishing would definetely do good for the hotel; furnitures look like still from the 1970ies with heavy, dark wood, tv should be from the 1980ies, very, very outdated and not what you expect of a hotel of that price range
- do i really pay for having cheap plastic chairs on the balcony???
- internet is very expensive, it should be taken for granted that it is for free for a room rate of about €200 per night up. it is annoying that a hotel of that standard doesn't even provide their own internet but redirect you to a german mobile company where you have to register to pay. personal data and money for internet!!! sorry, this is a no-go
- the spa area is very new and nice but due to the operating hours don't expect to experience them if you are here for business. may i suggest to open sauna/spa until midnight (due to the "dinner celebration" you don't finish before 22.00)

let me briefly adress food and beverage:
- breakfast buffet is really rich and offer a lot of different choices, including an egg station. BUT: service personnel is very slow, they might let you almost finish your breakfast before someone might ask you which drink you like. if you don't like thin, german coffee, you can order espresso, but it might be recommendable to order two immediately since you might not be asked again during your stay there.
- dinner is great and of a high quality. high are the prices (€6,50 for a bottle of mineral water???), slow but friendly is the service. no problem if you are here for vaccation and have enough time to spare...
- drinks at the bar are overpriced (€2,50 for an espresso???), although the bar tender is cute and very friendly, prepare your wallet, especially since there are almost no alternatives in the closer surrounding
- if you want to go to the beach, which is just a few metres away, you have to pay a few for entering it (€3 per day if i remember correctly and another €8 for a chair to sit in) - wow, what a way to make money.....

now i clearly understand, why young people would rather travel abroad for their holidays - they simply can't afford it and if so they expect much more of a modern atmosphere rather a senior residence for the rich german (which you also feel because you hear them complaining all day)

This was my 3rd time in the Lubeck-Travemunde area and happily so, the region being blessed with remarkable history, landscape, living standards and overall offering excellent hospitality at enticing value. You may reach this hotel by car as the closest rail station is in travemunde, some 5kms away and the closest airport is in Lubeck LBK, at some 28kms.Parking underground facility available at €15 daily, otherwise free parking within 2-3 blocks reach. The hotel interiors show a somewhat 1970s allure, when it was probably the most prestigious 5-star hotel in the area. The first thing you will notice is that 99 percent of the customers are from German-speaking areas thus you may feel a tad uncomfortable when expecting fluent English from the staff. That feeling is certainly mutual as for example when having dinner, you will have to explain what you would like to have from the menu, which will rigorously be in German.
The room I was assigned to had a beautiful balcony with view over the Baltic Sea, very roomy, some 30 sqm and very clean.Temperature control was very efficient in those days when -10C was the average outdoor temperature, allowing the guest to feel comfortably warm and dry at any time of the day.
Bed was really, really comfortable.Perfectly firm, with pristine crisp linen changed daily, plenty of pillows and a warm duvet that was just perfect for the task.Never too hot and never too cold.On arrival a nice basket of fruit and complimentary water welcomed me and a pleasantly assorted mini-bar with ok prices was available.Bathroom offered a bath tub, toilet and granite sink.It showed its age a little. The Spa facility is brand new, you'll swim in salty water, have a sauna and a steam bath and relax in a hot (according to the thermometers never less than 25C) environment while outside it's below freezing. The restaurant decor (and, if I may add, service) is definitely retro 1970s, which in itself is not necessarily a drawback, just a little pompous and outdated.Wine list may provide surprising discoveries as it happened to me with a fine merlot from South Africa. After dinner, plenty of lounge space to relax, a fireplace, bar and disco all within the establishment facilities, seconds from the elevators to your room.

A couple of things to complain about are:
1.Wi-fi daily rate is very expensive.
2.You are asked to pay to watch international sat tv channels!!!.

I would like to remind to the management that free wi-fi, cable CNN and other channels
are supposedly taken for granted in a 4-star hotel worldwide.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel for its high standards, competitive low-season rates and excellent bed, but, if planning to visit don't forget to learn some German first!

Room Tip: For a €15 daily upgrade you get the best rooms facing the baltic sea, recently renovated and locat...
