“Picturesque, tranquil, charming, authentic - relax within 2500 years of history ”
Reviewed 13 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I stayed with my three girls here in summer. We had spent some time baking in Rome and it was a relief to do as Italians do and escape to the cooler climate of the countryside.
This region is one of the best kept secrets in Italy. So close to Rome but foreign tourism hardly exists. So what you will experience is quintessentially Italian. In the village most people greet you as you walk past, some state out of casual curiosity. It is one of the most historic parts of Italy and Roman remains are literally everywhere.
The house is unique. Peaceful setting with beautiful vistas from every window and terrace, colorful gardens strewn with Roman capitals and columns to rest upon. Shady and cool with terraced gardens and olive groves, all the am entities you could hope for. For the historian it is a paradise - republican Roman ground floor, 16thC convent built above and a 12th-13thC watch tower (also renovated and available to rent separately) attached at one end.
Despite its size the house is cosy and sympathetically renovated, very comfortable and absolutely beautiful.
The owners, Guido and Giovanna, are so kind and helpful and speak good English. They will be able to recommend to you all the local places to visit or shop, as will their son Giacamo.
The region is wonderful - visit Lake Turano for a taste of Garda or Como. Eat at Posticciola local simple Italian cuisine. Visit Castel del Tora and Rocca Sinibaldi - the latter in particular is as stunning as Neuschwanstein, but is a real village where the locals will regard the tourist with curiosity.
I cannot rate the region enough, or this house and the hosts. Thank you so much. See you again.
