Tenute Al Bano
Reviewed 20 August 2013

A real paradise and an oasis of silence created with love to detail by artist Albano Carrisi, in the middle of beautiful nature and surrounded by olive and vine trees. What else could you think of as the ideal place to find recreation and inner peace when trying to escape the hectic daily routine? You might even feel like being in another world, in a fairy tale or mystic place: There are plenty of cosy and romantic niches, charming places like the little ponds where ducks are swimming peaceably (sometimes even dogs find a refreshing cooling), the adorable tiny chapel and the various small “piazze” where you can find hundreds of years old olive trees. The property includes as well a big forest where horses and ponies live in the wild independently.

The spacious pool area where breakfast and lunch is served during the summer month is pictorial, too, and especially in the late afternoon hours, the lighting conditions are magnificent! Have a walk in the garden, spot the white bell jars made of clay swinging in the wind and pick one of the figs straight away from the tree- you will never forget the sweetness of these sun-ripened fruits. If you do not feel like going out for dinner (renting a car recommended), you could taste best Italian cuisine in the own Restaurant of the Tenute or outside on the illuminated big piazza- in the background the heart-warming melodies of the Italian singer. You should definitely try a char-grilled pizza or one of the fish dishes- a culinary delight! Not to forget about a “bicchiere di vino” of Felicità, Platone or Don Carmelo- just to name some of Al Bano’s famous wines that are produced locally in the Tenute. Speaking about wine: As a visitor and on special request, you also have the possibility to degust the wines, view the place of production and visit as well the old and new wine-cellar which is an impressive experience.

The rooms in the Tenute are all designed differently, some of them with a balcony or even with a terrace which from you have a stunning overview over the imposing countryside. The room that is designated to the Spanish opera singer Montserrat Caballé even reminds of a wondrous tower in a fairy tale and she must feel like a princess in ancient times when stepping up to the heavy wooden door. And again, lots of love to detail: For instance, Al Bano’s most famous song texts are framed and written in artful letters on antic paper and you might find yourself humming the melody when reading them, the beds are made of olive wood and the colours of the pillows perfectly match with the bed linen. Even the door keys are made of olive wood, heart-shaped and with melodious names like “Orto degli Ulivi” (olive garden).

To put it in a nutshell: The Tenute Al Bano Carrisi is not a place that can be compared with any other ordinary hotel in the world. It is far more. It is the ambitious and passionate work of a lifetime that generously has been made accessible to the public and which beautifully teaches us the “leggerezza and bellezza” of the Italian way of life.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful. I could not recommend a certain room in particular.

My mother and I spent 9 days of pure relaxation in this beautiful paradise, an oasis of true nature. The staff are very friendly and attentive and can't do enough for you. The rooms are spacious and offer all the comforts, the swimming pool and it's surroundings are amazing, the newly built SPA was not open yet but it will be wonderful. The Restaurant Don Carmelo offers a wide selection of traditional cuisine, excellent pasta's, fish, meat, homemade bread and deliscious pizza. The wine is of great quality and I ordered a quantity to ship home.
This is the best holiday I have had for a long time. The location is ideal to use as a base for also visiting the beautiful beaches and other places of interest i.e. Lecce, a lovely and intersting town.
I can recommend Tenute Al Bano Carrisi to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, comfortable, enjoyable holiday in an atmosphere of pure glory.

I stayed at this hotel on my business trip and I liked very much. Hotel is out side of Brindisi. My room had own entrance. There was a minibar in the room. Facilities were good, shower, bed, etc. Staff was very friendly. Hotel has own restaurant, where I had very lovely and good dinner. Breakfast was basic and I dont have anything special to say about it. One minus was that there was plenty of stray cats, if you dont like them.

Felicita is a lovely song Albano sings. Felicita is a delicate and fruity wine Albano produces. And last but not least: Felicita is what you find when going to "Tenute Al Bano Carrisi" !
It's an incredible place. A must to see and live.
First the buildings and surroundings: a medieval castle where you can just imagine ancient guards on the roofs defending the property. Small little paved alleyways, piazzas, little ponds where fish and ducks share the view of beautiful fountains. A stunning yet unpretentious chapel in which one can find silence and tranquillity. Greenery everywhere, fig trees, olive trees. Taking a stroll in the “bosco” one can feel the harmony of the area: small lakes, cascades, little stoned stairs leading on a small hill to a beautiful tiny shrine: the place of contemplation with a breathtaking view. Horses run free in this splendid site just out of a romantic movie. And the pool... not really a pool in the standard way one would imagine... A gigantic pond with no corners, just round edges with a huge sun shining at the bottom, stairs coming down from a terrace into the pool. Again all the stones, the towers, one with a whirl pool on the top... unbelievable... Just built, not finished... A SPA is yet to come. On some days one can see Albano with his white hat on a tractor visiting the site and, with his overflowing imagination, bringing all this magnificence in a pure concept of leisure and serenity. Can’t wait to see it next year...
Then the rooms... all with different decoration, all with personal touch; some with terraces, some on 2 levels, some so romantic... but all comfortable and cosy. I personally also appreciated the amenities: the soap, shampoo and gel... pure olive oil...
The restaurant is a place within the place. I was fortunate to see it in summer as in autumn. Summer: with its large romantic terrace, its grill and pizza fire and the food... I just love Italian food. And there it is so excellent. Now my stomach is speaking: very big portions (too big for me ! thank you Cosimo and Mimino for having adapted to my plate standard!), simple yet so tasty. Try the Melanzane ala parmigiana... I have now had to learn how to do it myself (order of my husband)! With of course the white wine: “Felicita”... (my favourite). Winter: a very nice fire, cosy atmosphere and service always there to please and bring me “Tarras” my favourite red wine. Al Bano is all over as it is the only music they play in the background! I won’t judge the dessert as I never eat them but from the look of my friends, and their empty plates, they also seemed delicious.
The personnel from the reception and service staff were so nice I can’t thank them enough. They made me feel at home and cared for. Having travelled quite substantially this is priceless.
However, and there is always a “but”, there is this Italian saying: chi va piano va sano et lontano... 4* hotel... Standards have to be met and kept on a regular basis day after day. This I must say would be the only flaw I could mention. Sometimes... everybody seemed to have disappeared... Keep it up folks!
So as you can see I just loved the place and will go back. From Geneva we are fortunate to have a low cost flight which brings us directly to Brindisi in 1h45mn... Then 25 mn by car and Felicita is just there to be enjoyed and cherished.

Lovely hotel outside Brindisi. Not very easy to find it but, once found, we had two lovely rooms. All staff are extremely helpful and the hotel which looks like a castle is very pretty. The restaurant is excellent and very reasonable and the swimming pool is very pleasant as well
