We visited for several days in July, principally for hiking in the beautiful nearby mountains.
This hotel is principally a ski destination, and was rather quiet in the summer.
Pluses: Extraordinary views, pretty good food, great access to hiking trails.
Minuses: Accessible only by (in summer only) a rather poor road up from Champery or by cable car. The cable car stops running at 6:00 PM, and if you miss the last car, or if the service is suspended because of weather, you're stuck.
The place has a somewhat impersonal and institutional feel, both physically and in management. There is little connectedness or warmth to it, although everything seems to function pretty well on an almost mechanical level.
The top of the cable car is an approximately 15 minute walk to the hotel via a rough track.
Communication regarding how to reach the hotel, and how to handle our bags was poorly handled, and we ended up lugging our bags most of the way to the hotel, some of us not being prepared for the rough track, not wearing the proper shoes. This was symptomatic of the rather detached (although mechanically proper) interactions with the hotel management and staff.
All in all, and unless there for the skiing in winter, I think you could do better.More
