“A special place in Champéry”
Reviewed 19 February 2011

We staid only one night in this hotel, but would have gladly staid longer, if our agenda would have permitted this.

Relatively recently renovated in a historical building, its interior design in a sort of romantic Swiss style (see their Web pages) which you might enticing or slightly off-putting, depending on your taste. It definitely changes from the run-of-the-mill style found in many Swiss hotel. Our room was great! Large, luminous and with a large terrace which we unfortunately had no real time to enjoy. Wireless internet worked perfectly smooth, which we appreciated since we needed to organize the next days.

Breakfast was fine with good variety and an excellent coffee. The breakfast and afternoon tea area is rather simply decorated. There is another area with comfortable sofas and a real fireplace one staircase up. Owners and staff were friendly and made us feel welcome from the first minute.

In early January our family, 2 teenagers and my wife and I spend 10 days in Champery at the Hotel Beau Sejour. We had a the most wonderful time in Champery and especially in the Hotel. The service was wonderful, from suggestions on places to eat and visit to assisting us find an english speaking doctor when one of us got sick, to remembering the small details like our separate tea orders every morning without the need to ask. The new owner/managers, Sophie and Philippe bring fresh enthusiasm to the hotel. After a day of sight seeing or skiing something to look forward to is the afternoon tea with an excellent selection cakes. Champery is a picture perfect unspoiled Swiss mountain village. We thoroughly recommend Champery and the Art Boutique. Hotel Beau-Sejour.

We just stayed with our 3 children at the Hotel Beau Sejour for 4 nights. The hotel only offers B&B but has arrangements with 3 local retaurants for half board (evenings). We chose to go to the restaurants we fancied... The rooms we had were all pretty. Our shower room was new and tastefully decorated, the children's shower rooms (2 for 3 children, what a luxury!) were old BUT immaculate - you do get used to the green daisies on the tiles after a while! The whole hotel is decorated like a chalet (with remnants here and there of its less glorious past, but it's ok). Breakfast is good. Apparently, there is an amazing selection of cakes and pudding for tea in Winter, all baked by the owners. Apart from its chalet atmosphere, the main strength of the hotel is the fantastic knowledge and spot-on recommendations of the owners. No need to go to the Tourist Office , they are just as good (event better, we found). We had planned to go back in Winter only to find out most rooms were already booked and we coudn't be accomodated next to the children... We'll definitly try again!!

We spent a week at the Beau Sejour in late Feb. 2010, enjoying the skiing and ambience of the charming small town. Our package included the excellent buffet breakfast and wonderful afternoon tea, and a 6 day lift ticket. Helene and Robert Besseling are excellent hosts, friendly, helpful and attentive. They do not offer dinner, but have a prix fixe arrangement with 4 local restaurants, as well as offering suggestions for other dining choices. The room was not large but was so well equipped that we were very comfortable, with plenty of storage space for our things. They have renovated an old building to modern standards without losing the charm of a typical Swiss chalet hotel. The bathroom was brand new and well lit, heated towel bar, plenty of hot water, good towels. The lighting in the room was great - so we could read without the problems we often encounter in Europe. The TV has plenty of channels so we could follow the Olympics, and wonder of wonders, they have free WiFi throughout. We enjoyed the comfortable living room as well. This is my idea of a perfectly run small hotel.

We stayed in Hotel Beau Sejour in January this year and had 10 wonderful days skiing in the swiss alps. First of all, the skiing in Portes du Soleil is outstanding, with its 600 kms of pistes and lots of beautiful views and restaurants. Then, Portes du Soleil is very easy to access from Hotel Beau Sejour: You just have to walk about 400 meters, until you reach the cable car. Furthermore, the hotel offers you lockers at the hill station, so you never have to carry your stuff from or to the hotel. Although this wouldn't be a problem, since the hotel offers a storage room, and the ski bus stops directly in front of its door. So for skiing, I can't think of a better and more comfortable option.
With regard to the hotel, we were more than happy with our choice. It is very small and cosy, yet offers all the services you might expect. Rooms are so cute, and most of them have renovated bathrooms and balconies overlooking the mountains. Breakfast is of very high quality, although what we liked most were the cakes in the afternoon! Every afternoon Robert, the owner, serves an all you can eat buffet with homemade cakes, which are delicious! And this is included in your room rate, as the Wifi is, too! There is no dinner served, but the best restaurant in Champery is next door, about 20 meters to walk. The owners speak english, french, german and dutch and are incredibly helpful and friendly. Thanks a lot for wonderful holidays we even speak of today! Definitely we will be back next winter!

Hotel Beau Sejour is one of those hotels, which doesn't need fancy advertisements or flashy ways to draw attention. Everybody who ever stayed in the hotel will fall victim to its charm and cannot but feel very welcome by its friendly and hospitable staff. The hotels interior is alpine in a genuine and unobstrusive way and makes you feel very comfortable. The owners are very helpful in organizing your stay and even willing to drop you off at remote restaurants or to pick you up from the train station, when you arrive in Champery (let them know when you arrive).

As the whole hotel, the rooms have a pleasant interior and decoration. Double-rooms feature really comfortable beds. They are big enough, that even the tallest persons should get a good night of sleep. Everything is really well maintained and really clean. To my knowledge each room as access to a balcony and we had a really nice view on the surrounding mountains. In my opinion the bathrooms cannot quite keep up in design with the rest of the hotel, but they are spotlessly clean and do the job. The only downside might be that the shower head in cannot be adjusted in height which can pose a small problem for tall people.

The hotel offers continental (french) breakfast. The selection of food might be small, compared to bigger hotels, but of good quality. Different locally baked breads, rolls, croissants, cheese, ham, large selection of fruits and cereals as well as fried and boiled eggs (on request).
In the afternoon (between 4 and 6 pm) tea and home-made cake is served. In the week we stayed there an average of 5-6 different cakes have been offered without ever serving the same sort of cake twice. Coming down from the snow covered mountains cake and tea really help you to warm up. As a side note: The tea comes in muslin bags and is of superb quality.

Even though no dinner is served in the hotel, the hotel works together with several local restaurants and the staff happily takes over the efforts of booking a table. Furthermore for the guests of the Beau Sejour some of the restaurants in town offers special menus that you should book in the morning. They come for 35 CHF and are really good value. I would especially recommend Café du Nord (just a few houses down the road) and at the Vieux-Chalet (next door). The menus are pretty big though, so go easy on the afternoon cake.

In the evening a tea-bar in the reception area allows you help yourself to a cup of tea until 10pm (or even later), while you enjoy the fire in the fireplace in the Saloon.

A few side notes on the hotel: It does not have any fancy add ons like a spa or a sauna etc, but you won’t have any problem finding one in walking distance. Instead the hotel provides a ski-room with direct access from street level, so you don’t have to drag your skis around more than absolutely necessary. Next to it there is a heated room for your skiing boots, which ensures that you will have dry and warm boots every morning you hit the slopes. If you want to reduce the hassle with you equipment to a minimum you can also rent a locker for your skis in the upper station of the cable car for about 25 CHF/week at the hotel. Note, that the room the locker is located in is either not heated over night, or badly ventilated. Our boots did not dry there over night.

In the morning it is only a short walk downhill to the cable car (~3-5min) and there is no need to wait for the Ski-Bus, which goes about every 15-20minutes and stops right in front of the hotel. Still, you might find the bus helpful on your way back to the hotel, as you have to walk uphill.

We had a fantastic time in the hotel and felt very welcome there. We will go back there, no doubt.

We loved our stay at Beau Sejour. The hotel is IMMACULATE! The decor is traditional alpine done very stylishly (not at all kitsch). The owners are very hospitable and helpful. Our very comfortable room had a view of the village and had the most plump and cosy duvet I have ever slept under! There is a drying room (located in the basement) for your ski boots and storage room for your skis/boards. Every afternoon from 4pm there are the most delicious cakes, slices and cookies to enjoy along with coffee and tea.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the telecabin (uphill on the way home!) and restaurants are all within a couple of minutes walking distance (no restaurant at the hotel).

All in all, a gorgeous hotel with faultless service. Would highly recommend if you are looking to stay in Champery.
