We stayed in this hotel for one night only and enjoyed it very much. The service was excellent and very warm welcome. They help you with everything. Yes, it is not a cheap place, but worth it. The room service is great. I ordered a Tartar Steak with salad and I have to say it was delicious! We had a lovely alpine view from our room (110). Also we would like to mention breakfast. You will enjoy it, we promise you. They have a great selection of everything: from smoked salmon & herring, air dried meet, a few choices of cheese, hot meals to a nice selection of fruits and pastries. We also loved their coffee. Fantastic place and spectacular views! You have to take a walk from the hotel to the lake (1 hour one way). The walk was so enjoyable that it took us 4 hours instead of 2 to come back :) Amazing Alpine scenery!!!

Room Tip: Room 110 on the 3d floor has a fantastic alpine view.

If you want to pay 5* prices for a 3/4* experience then this is the place for you. We arrived on Friday and although had booked 2 suites in the Silvana (which is 4*) our friends were upgraded to a suite in the 5* building, as the hotel had double booked our rooms. Well I have to say the suite my friend was upgraded to reduced her to tears, these were not tears of joy but tears of despair, the room was disgusting. She had to go to reception and complain about the state of the room (it was like something out of a 1960's movie) the young lady agreed with her and they were switched to a "nicer modern room". Ok so the first hiccough we put to one side but the comedy of errors just occurred over and over throughout the weekend. The final straw was when the hotel made a reservation for us in the town at the Arenas restaurant and told us to call for the hotel to pick us up (they did state before 11pm) so we completed our meal at 10pm and called the hotel, they never answered the phone!!! We were left stranded in the town without a lift home, we continued to call the hotel until after 11pm (over an hour) and the phone wasn't answered ONCE!! We got the restaurant to arrange a local taxi which we had to pay for as this was the only way we were getting home! On arrival at the hotel there was 3 (yes THREE) personnel on the front desk who said they were far too busy to answer the phone (in a 5* hotel - REALLY unbelievable ????) anyway I could continue with my rant but I wont. Overall we did not let fawlty towers spoil our weekend and would definitely return to Flims/Laax but not to this hotel unless they get some training and a further refurb. The only positive memory we took away with us was the fantastic receptionist "Josephine"

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a newer modern room or rooms in the Silvana were better than the main hotel

Stayed 2 nights at the Grand Hotel in the Waldhaus Resort for a ski weekend, our second stay at the Resort (last time we stayed in the Villa Silvana). Just as last time, upon arrival someone helped us unpack the car and drove it to the indoor parking lot, and our luggage was taken care of while we were welcomed by the reception staff.

Room: Our room was a corner room on the second floor. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the decor in the room. Just as in Villa Silvana, the interior is somewhat dated and in need of a refurbishment. But the room was large enough that the three of us (2 adults, 1 child) had plenty of space, the beds were comfortable and I had more than enough room to store all our clothes. The bathroom had been recently redone and everything was in working order and stylish, however the room was a tad cold. I keep being surprised that heated floors aren't standard in luxury hotels in Switzerland, while any 3-stars hotel has it in Scandinavia. Plus points to the large drawers where to store toiletries!

Food: Breakfast is taken in a large dining room and consists of an extensive buffet. We're somewhat simple when it comes to breakfast and didn't try everything, but what we ate was fresh and tasty, and service was courteous. We had the Resort dining experience package (+ 60 CHF per person per night) and have to say it's worth every penny. The first night we ate at the Epoca gourmet restaurant, where the package gives you a 60 CHF voucher to be deduced from the bill upon check-out. We had a great (expensive) dinner. The second night we ate at the Rotonde restaurant, where the package included a 6 course dinner. It was almost as good as the first night and great value. Our son opted for the Mini-Club restaurant and appeared pleased with his meal.

Facilities: The main draw of the resort are the facilities. The ski room is heated and spacious, and the shuttle bus to the lifts is frequent so you seldom have to wait a lot. And then there is the wellness area and spa, with indoor pool, outdoor pool, steam bath, aroma sauna, sauna, gym... It's all very recent, clean and beautiful. I had a facial treatment and a massage, the massage was good but I am mostly extremely satisfied with the facial treatment which was given by a nice, efficient and gentle therapist. Our son went to the mini-club both afternoons and was happy with the experience, even though he couldn't find other kids that spoke the same language as him.

Overall we're very happy with our stay. The rooms are too expensive to be called good value for what you get, but the facilities are very enjoyable and we really only used the room to sleep. All the staff we were in contact with were competent and courteous, and one thing that struck is how family friendly the place was. We would stay again at the resort, but I'm not sure we would splurge again on a room in the Grand.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The accommodation was in the "Chalet Belmont" building. The price that we paid was close to 950 Swiss Francs per night and the expectations were high.

The welcome at the door and the check in procedure was ok with standard phrases and mechanistic friendliness. During check-in and while we were seated and dealt with registration etc, suddenly a lady appeared in hurry, shook hands with us and left the same fast as she came. .

We contacted Concierge and reception two times for information on the area and both times wrong information was provided. At the first instance and because of the wrong information we had to wait at a bus station for more than 30 minutes. Thank God it was a sunny day and not so cold.

Chalet Bellmont: The room was spacious but it was outdated. The furniture and the bathroom fixtures seemed very old with the shower curtain of the tiny shower cubicle always sticking on your back. There was a bath tub too. The door of the bathroom was hanging and did not close well with whatever that had as a consequence. However, as we did not plan to spend much time in the room we did not ask to change rooms. In the corridor outside the room and close to the lift they provided fresh fruits but often the basket was not replenished.

The circulation to the rest of the buildings is done through underground tunnels. These tunnels have white walls and seem very long. While you walk to the restaurants or to the bars you can cross other guests coming back from the spa in their white robes. I walked myself once this tunnel in a bath robe crossing people going to dinner and it was a strange feeling. Not so bad. You can also walk to the other facilities through the park if you do not mind the low temperatures at night. For going to the breakfast room we always used this outside route.

The breakfast was adequate and with things that you would expect from any hotel that claims to be 5 star. However the orange juice machine that was placed on the buffet, made a terrible noise every time a fellow guest had to press his own juice. The service was overwhelmed at times during peak hours but was most of the times coping well. The omelets made in front of the guest were good.

We only used the Rotonde and Epoca restaurants for dinner. They also had some other restaurants outside the resort but we did not go. The Rotonde had acceptable food but nothing extraordinary. The service was ok but it was soulless. At times we tried to start a little chat with the waitress but her answers were short and distanced. Alas! Were we in a holiday resort? Although the restaurant has impressive views, the lack of atmosphere turned the experience to a simple intake of food.

The next day as we entered Epoca, the chef had a chat with someone at the entrance and he greeted us friendly which was a nice touch. The food in this restaurant was interesting and the service better and more attentive than the other places. They also have a nice cheese wagon. In general, Epoca did not exceed our expectations but it did not disappoint us either. Would I go again to the above mentioned restaurants? Probably not.

There are two bars that I noticed. The first one is a long room with multi colored chairs and sofas and it is soulless and smoke free and was empty most of the time. The other bar is cozier and has live music BUT beware it is not smoke free. There are people in there smoking cigars and if you do not like to smell other peoples smoke, then you cannot use this place. Pity! What I do not understand is how they manage to operate this place while there is an antismoke law in Switzerland. Maybe they declare it as a smokers lounge but use it as a bar. Who knows… Fact is that the cigar smell was hanging like a pest in the air of the public areas around this “Bar”

The gym was not huge but the basic machines were there and were enough for the morning workout. I had a treatment in the Spa and I have to say that I have experienced much better treatments elsewhere in the world. It was not worth the trouble and the long walk in a bathrobe through the tunnel. Let alone the money…

Someone could say that all the above are small details but when you pay this amount of money you expect much better.

All in all, a hotel with good infrastructure, (spa, pool and other facilities) but with mediocre and pretentious service. On the top of it comes the attitude of the management that tries to make complaining guests looking like fools.

It is unlikely that we will visit again and we will not recommend the Waldhaus Flims Grand Resort to our friends and relatives. There are a lot of great hotels in Switzerland which are authentic and provide service from the heart and respect the money that they are charging.

My wife and I spent an extended weekend at the Waldhaus and had a wonderful time. We tried out all the restaurants and were very pleased with the variety and quality. The spa is one of the nicest we have ever been to and must be seen! The only weak point was the room, which although newly refurbished lacked a personal and cosy touch.

A smart resort hotel - a comfortable stay in very classy surroundings and in an extensive wooded park . Stayed in the Silvana residence and we were upgraded to a corner room with balcony. Spacious, light with a wonderful bathroom which included a good range of toiletries. Very nice touches which included welcoming chocolate brownies and a large fruit bowl on each landing. An underground passage led to the Pavillion or the spa area, so the latter could be reached in bathrobe and swimming gear. Spa included both heated indoor and outdoor pools with wonderful views of the mountains. The Pavillion included the fine dining restaurant, smart bar and a wood panelled cigar lounge.

The food and its presentation was excellent in all the restaurants. Forget the usual continental breakfasts in ski resorts of hard cheese and weak orange juice. The breakfast bar at the Waldhaus had the lot. I was initially disappointed on the first morning to discover no 'Alpen' amongst the cereals, till it dawned on me that it was a case of build your own - every conceivable grain, nut, seed and dried fruit was available. A tea and coffee menu gave an extensive range of hot beverages. there were 5 different types of honey, including on the comb.

In terms of evening dining we sampled the Swiss fondue at the 6 lane indoor curling rink, the italian restaurant (Pomodoro) and the Epoca fine dining restaurant - all were excellent with high standards of service and presentation. Staff were great throughout, from the welcoming receptionists, to the lads driving the regular minibuses down to the ski lifts.

We had an excellent stay, and would be happy to stay again.

We have visited the waldhaus grand hotel 5+ times now for skiing weekends, as it is the best hotel in the flims/laax area. It is a classic "grand hotel" with a beautiful (from the outside) main building, a very good (17 gault millau points), and a good spa (not on a par with the Dolder zurich or Tschuggen Arosa ... But pretty good). Service is generally good, very friendly staff.

He only thing that really does irritate is the interior decoration. For the prices you pay, one would expect tastefully decorated rooms. Unfortunately, many of them still have furniture in '80s style blue/azul/pink abstract upholstery, brass&glass teatables, etc. Similarly, the lobbies look more like midrange hotel-in-need-of-a-renovation. Quite puzzling as the furniture does seem newly upholstered, and rooms do have expensive (new) silk wall covering. One can only conclude that the hotel's interior decorator has not progressed in taste since the '80s.

Our advice: go to nearby arosa (tschuggen grand hotel) or Lenzerheide (guarda val). If looking for a grand hotel experience, go to st moritz (carlton or badrutt palace) or zermatt (petit cervin)
