Sunstar Boutique Hotel Albeina Klosters
Ranked #8 of 15 Hotels in Klosters

The hotel is located close to train station and Madrisa ski area. 20 - 25 minutes nice walk to Klosters center.Free transfer from the hotel and local busses are available. I had breakfast and dinner included. My room was OK. Bed was OK but not more. TV set was very small with news programs but not other in English. Bathroom was traditional with bathtub. It was very difficult to have just a shower because of old fashioned bathtub which was small and high. I think it’s time for change in bathroom and new TV set. I had access to swimming pool and sauna. Breakfast buffet was rich and dinner had always 3 alternatives including vegetarian dish. 6 days I enjoyed vegetarian dish of good quality. Generally everything was OK but not more. I recommend hotel for those who want ski in Madrisa area.

I've just had a week on my own in the Sunstar at Klosters Dorf, skiing with the Ski Club of GB in the daytimes. My initial impression was and abiding memory is of how kind, helpful and pleasant the staff were to me. The hotel had a happy atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner were both varied and of a high quality. In the past I have had reservations about the hotel location but the minibus takes you up to the Gotschnabahn every morning at half hourly intervals and getting back in the evening is no problem with the possibility to ski back if there is enough snow or the bus or the train, both of which are free with the Guest Card. Some of the fixtures and fitting are a bit dated, especially upstairs, but that did not detract from the very good hospitality provided by the hotel. I will be returning.

We came here already four times. We like the location and the view from our balcony. Usually, we ski at Madrisa since our son joins the ski school (Saas). The hotel bus drives you every morning, otherwise it's a less than 10 minutes walk. We don't mind to be a bit remote in Klosters Dorf as it has an old charming village character. Especially when there is a lot of snow, the walk to Klosters Platz is very nice. Otherwise the hotel bus takes you (and it's a 3 minute drive, not 10 min as stated by someone else). If you ski at Gotschna you even can come back by ski directly to the hotel door (via parking behind the train station).

I know that all hotels in the area are a bit old, none is 5 stars, and far from what you experience when you travel, especially in Asia. Most bathrooms of the Albeina Sunstar rooms are not renovated yet. But, the rate charged is far too high. Since it was our 4th visit, I joked about a kind of frequent visitor discount. It turned out that we get 6 or 7% and we missed already 2 bonus bottles of house wine for dinner. I would have appreciated if their "bonus scheme" would have been explained to us during the booking process or at least at arrival. I also did not like that the ladies from the reception talked our son into a fancy "fruit cocktail" upon arrival that they charged 5 CHF for.

Beside that, staff is friendly and food is good.

We stayed at Klosters Sun Hotel this week of NYE. It was overpriced and a total disappointment. The reasons being firstly every sentence started with "it's just not possible". The staff were very friendly to us on the first day then it just went down hill. Eventually we felt as though asking just the basic of questions were upsetting or disturbing them. I'm not sure if its the Swiss way? Or they didn't like the English speaking but we felt very uncomfortable. There was also a girl on staff in the evening who didn't know anything and kept giving us the wrong info.

The Internet is very spotty and often doesn't work, sauna is only open from 4pm - we even begged for it to be opened a little earlier as we weren't skiing and the answer again - it's not possible.

They gave us one of the "pokiest" rooms and it was claustrophobic - definetly not 4 star?! No bath. We had an extra friend staying last minute and they charged us 50f a day for an extra bed (on top of the astronomical price).

Along with all this the location is TERRIBLE - I would definitely not recomend staying in Klosters Dorf and esspecially without a car. There is nothing in this area and you have to either get a train or bus - big mission.

Klosters platz is a 5-10 min drive and there is also nothing really there. More action in Davos. We are in our late 20's so also be mindful that Sun hotel has an old age home vibe.

I would recomend going to a pension rather which would have been cheaper and another town in Austria which is ski in and ski out with more of a welcoming atmosphere.

More than happy to answer any questions you may have about Klosters or hotel.

very friendly staff, excellent food, except if you do not want the menu as the "à la carte2 is extremely limited and poor !).

Very quiet location, but quite a distance from most opportunities (especially in winter). Even free busses and trains (offered by all hotels in the region in summer) are not quite helpfull to compensate for the distance, easier to move by own car if you do not want to spend a couple hours in public transports per day (to reach Davos mainly).

Wellness area is extremely limitted (sauna & hammam are very little, no jacuzzi, all area not really nicely set-up, but correct size swimming pool).

Happy hour at the bar (1 x / week) only for 5 specially set-up drinks, ... a welcome apero with only a cup of chips, ...

Rooms are nice but their arrangement (for the susperior ones) could be improved.

We have had two excellent summer holidays at the Sunstar in Klosters Dorf.
Anja and Edgar run the hotels with great enthusiasm which is carried through by their excellent staff.
They are all very helpful, nothing is too much trouble and they volunteer ideas to make your stay just that little bit more special.
A great quiet location and well placed for walking, but with excellent connections by bus and train for walks that are further afield.
The food is excellent and varied, with great options.
We look forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: Kloster is a discreet and quiet location don't be put off by the "Royal" connection it...
