“Not a 4 Star”
Reviewed 2 January 2012

Just had a week at this hotel, not really any major complaints however it's definitely not a 4 star, more like a 3 star. Rooms haven't been updated since the early 80's and there were some odd locked cupboards dotted around the room - one was for the use of the kitchen (a two ringed cooktop with absolutely no utensils, not even a kettle), so I guess it held the magical equipment necessary to use the cooktop. If you wanted it unlocked it was a 20franc daily charge, ridiculous. The bathroom amenities consisted of a wrapped soap and a sachet of shampoo/conditioner that were seriously poor quality, the breakfast was very average. The staff were lovely. The location was a five minute walk to the station and gondola. The ski room wasn't heated so we ended up using the lockers provided by Intersport next to the station. The price was comparative with what else was available in Klosters, this is Switzerland so you expect it to be expensive, and this was the cheapest 4 star around. They should just say they are a 3 star and I would have managed my expectations accordingly. Apart from the quibbles above there was quite a lot of noise every night until approx. 11.00pm, not sure if it was the plumbing or the people upstairs bowling, but it was very loud.

I have been a guest of Silvia Barblan's each year for the past fifteen years. I remember the very first day that my friend John and I arrived at Steinbock to a wonderful greeting by Sivlia and her two daughters, Claudia and Ladina. Through the years they have been the most wonderful friends that one could imagine, even though we only saw each other two to three weeks each year.
The staff have always been of the highest standard. The rooms are kept extremely clean and are comfortable and warm. The location of Steinbock is perfect because it is within walking distance of the Gotchnabahn (the cable car that brings you into the snowfields of Klosters) and the central part of the village.
With regard to the restaurant and the quality of service and food, you will not find a better place to dine in all of Switzerland.
I recommend Hotel Steinbock without hesistation to anyone traveling to Switzerland, and if you have a chance, stay in suite Scottschiefer.

Room Tip: With a small family of four or five, any of the suites are perfect. I have stayed each year in seve...

Passed this hotel on the way in to Klosters before calling in at the Tourist Office to see what was available. Delighted to find this was 160CHF per room per night. We were shown a wonderful room which was really a suite on 2 floors, with 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, a lounge and even its own fireplace! This was more expensive but only by 40 CHF per night.

We stayed 2 nights and would have stayed for more. Fantastic views from the 2 balconies in our room and the staff could not have been more welcoming or attentive.

Would definitely return for both winter and summer. Klosters is lovely, with a very alpine charm, unlike its larger neighbour Davos. Stay in Klosters and ski the whole area.

Room Tip: Summer - just turn up. Winter - book in advance.

The service is very friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a great breakfast and also the restaurant is very good. There is plenty of space in the clean rooms, but some have a bathroom without window.

Perfunctory and immaculate room (#219), very comfortable, decorated in knotty pine Swiss-style furniture. We had a balcony over the street, which would definately be too noisy for some, but the views were magnificent. Internet given out in 30-minute (free) increments. Great staff; very welcoming.

The all la carte restaurant is outstanding, not fancy, and very expensive – as is everything in Switzerland. Turns out May 15-June 25 is in between seasons, and most of the city was closed, including most of the hotels and restaurants.

Room Tip: Don't be on the street side.

I felt very comfortable during the whole stay. Nice furnitured rooms (all in wood) with enough space and an excellent view from the balcony. The breakfast-buffet offers everything you like and during the day there was always a fruit plate at the reception where you could take something. Excellent food and also as a solo traveler you feel always welcome and at home!!

We booked the very last double room available, last minute of course, & were very pleasantly surprised to be shown to a charming & adequetely sized room. The decor was traditional Swiss Mountain hotel, clean, simple & everything with a purpose. It's a small family hotel & we were greeted by name on arrival & they helped us with carrying bags & ski bags etc. Parking was right at the front door.
The room rate included an excellent & very impressive extensive breakfast, much more than either of us could ever hope to get through & the waitress couldn't be faulted, despite being called hither by lots of hungry skiers keen to get going. It also included access to the hidden treasure which was the spa & sauna room. Very clean & just perfect after a day of skiing. We even had it to ourselves for the first half hour.
The restaurant was full (as we'd not booked before) so we had to eat elsewhere, however they did try to accomodate us with a late booking. We'd recommend booking early as it's very popular.
Their very friendly service was topped off in perfect style as I'd left a jacket in my room by mistake & they very efficiently knew all about it & happily posted it to me at my forwarding address over a week later.
