We had one night at the Grand hotel du Lac at the end of May 2014 and having read the book the Hotel du Lac I was so looking forward to our stay. It started of very well with designated parking and a lovely member of staff to greet us. This was followed by a tour of the hotel and the facilities. We had booked afternoon tea in advance of our stay and this is when things started to go wrong, we booked for 5.30pm on the terrace, however, the waiter did not seem to know what he was doing, we asked for Earl Grey tea and instead received something resembling ginger and lemon, he continued to disappear and appear but nothing else happened. Half an hour later the tea cold, a waitress came over to again ask what we wanted, we again explained we had pre booked afternoon tea, she then disappeared, by now it was 6pm so we left and went to reception to complain and then went out to dine. The overall experience was not that of a 5 star hotel, the pool was closed, the service dreadful. The hotel itself was comfortable and relaxed, our room was comfortable and attractive, but I was so disappointed with the whole experience. When we checked out we received an apology for the poor service and were told they had deducted the afternoon tea from the bill! It had so much promise on our arrival but did not live up to our expectations. Will not be going back

At these prices you would expect perfection. Unfortunately this hotel under delivers. On the positive side I had booked a courtyard room on the hotel's website. On check in, the hotel had upgraded me to a lake view room which had a stunning view of lake Geneva from the balcony - very fortunate as the 'courtyard' rooms face inland and overlook a busy coastal road and (very handy) main bus route. Beautifully decorated room but amazingly lots of impact marks on walls due (presumably) to luggage and several areas of peeling wall paper in the bathroom - both of these are very easily fixable with a minimal of effort from the hotel - so why hadn't they been repaired before arrival? As mentioned in other TA reviews, the restaurant terrace shares the beautiful views of the lake but the food is distinctly average and in no way justifies the prices charged. I had the 3 course set dinner menu on the first night and then opted to eat out for my other two nights - there is a wide choice of very good lakeside restaurants in the area. Breakfast buffet was again distinctly average accompanied by a CHF39 price tag - do not expect any home produced Swiss specialities in this self serve buffet. Beautifully appointed small gardens lead onto the pedestrianised lake front area and surround a (chilly) outdoor pool. Tiny spa area with only a couple of exercise machines on offer. A variety of small reception rooms are stuffed full of antiques and offer drinks whilst listening to live piano music. The hotel has a long history in Vevey but I really believe it needs to raise its game to justify its continuing no 1 status on Trip Advisor.

I stayed in this nicely renovated hotel for one night. Check-in at reception was very smooth and the room we got was spacious, with great view on the lake, and with a comfortable bed. This old style Grand hotel has recently been completly renovated - in a very stylish way, modern but still keeping the Grand Hotel flair. The public area has various rooms that are all furnished in a different style but it still all fits together. Compared to other 5star hotels in Vevey, this hotel is quite small and therefore intimate - which I liked very much. Attention is put to the details. However, since it is a small hotel, do not expect a huge garden. There is a garden and it is very nice but it is not huge. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is very good: at the lake and in walking distance to the old town.Only draw back of my overall stay: I found the breakfast price a bit high - breakfast is good but I thought it was slightly overpaid.
I would definitively go back to this hotel and can recommend it.

Room Tip: Definitively worth to spend the additional money to get a room with lake view!

We stayed for 2 days in this fantastic hotel. Beautiful decorated rooms with good beds, TV easy to use, complimentary water, bus passes everything was just top. The restaurant , bar and salon were beautiful decorated with everywhere a lot of fresh flowers. In the evening they did play some lovely piano music and served professionally made cocktails. The diner was just excellent. The hotel is situated just in front of the lake and has a nice terrace. On top of all this you get a very good service by very friendly smiling and professional people. Extra thumbs up for the older cleaning lady who was so nice and did her job with love and pride. One of the best 5 stars we have ever been to.I can highly recommend it.

We stayed here at the end of a skiing holiday in France This is a good hotel in a nice position next to the beautiful lake with lovely views over the lake and the mountains a sort of Toblerone advert we thought! It is well decorated with a feeling of history. Big wide corridors to the rooms, with music playing softly in the background. Nice rooms, but no tea or coffee making facilities which is nice to have when you are travelling frequently and just want to be able to make a cup of tea! The spa/gym area we enjoyed, the steam room and sauna was good - there wasn't anyone else there when we used it (there didn't seem to be anyone else in Vevey either - very quiet place!) however two of the gym machines were not working for the duration of our stay and that seemed unacceptable considering the standard of the hotel. We had a comfortable stay and particularly liked the receptionist for her professionalism and hospitality. It turned out she was in training at the hotel, and she was excellent at her job. Apparently you can get bikes from the hotel and cycle around the lake, but there were no bikes available to us during the winter season. We found an ice skating rink just a few minutes walk away and a couple of good restaurants, although our best restaurant was a seafood Italian restaurant in Montreux which was fabulous, but I cant remember the name! if you are walking along the main road in Montreux it is on the left hand side and it displays all the seafood on top of ice outside. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but there were lots of cafes nearby for good breakfasts. We also used the free buses (hotel gives you a pass) so we got the feel of the place and didn't have to drive.

My family stayed here (3 of us - one a 13 year old) for a couple of days over Christmas. It is a beautiful facility that was totally redone a few years ago and they did a great job. The room we stayed in had a small balcony and great view of the lake. And even though it was cold and rainy most of the time we were there, the property has a warm and cozy atmosphere and we enjoyed hanging out in the "living room" type areas on the main level drinking latte's or wine before dinner. They helped us find other restaurants to try but their food was very good as well. All the people were friendly - spoke good English- and didn't make you feel guilty that you didn't speak French!!

The only downside was a rather small fitness area - one treadmill, one elliptical and a stationary bike. But the rest of the spa was nice with steam, dry sauna and I had a very good massage.

So if you are looking for a smaller, quaint yet luxurious spot on Lake Geneva - this is a great choice.
