“Worth it for the ideal setting”
Reviewed 11 August 2011

We (3 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed at the Mont Blanc au Lac Hotel in Morges for 2 nights (Friday to Sunday) in July. When we were planning our vacation itinerary for Switzerland we wanted to see the German as well as the French parts of Switzerland. Unlike the Berner Oberland region which has a large number of hotels, the area between Lausanne and Geneva has much less choice. Having lived in the area before, I opted for Morges as a stop-over town as it is fairly large and situated on Lake Geneva. Although somewhat more expensive than our other hotels we decided to reserve the Mont Blanc au Lac hotel and we were extremely pleased with its location, directly facing the lake, which made for pleasant strolls admiring the French Alps on the opposite bank. The hotel does not offer parking on site. On arrival we were able to leave the car outside the front door as we unloaded our suitcases however after that we had the choice of driving 2 streets over to a covered garage (fee) or using the public parking spots along the street (as I remember these were free daily after 5pm and all day on Sundays, otherwise you can use the parking disc provided in the rental car or at the front desk which allows for short limited-timed parking). For our needs we used the public parking spots. The hotel has old-world ambiance: dark wood in the hallways, old-fashioned furniture in the rooms, etc. We had reserved 2 rooms; they were on the second floor (accessible by elevator) and were nicely decorated and had fairly large bathrooms. We were not facing the lake but from our windows we could see it if we stretched our heads out a bit. Each room had individually controlled air conditioning and a minibar. A free internet terminal was available to guests in the lobby. Breakfast was served on the main floor in the restaurant - a beautiful sunny room with a view of the lake. The buffet breakfast was complete with cheeses, cold cuts, yogurt, fruit salad, breads and croissants, cereals, juices, etc. All the personnel that we met were polite and helpful. The pedestrian main street of Morges is a short 2 minute walk from the hotel and we were able to take advantage of the Saturday morning market filled with stalls selling anything from cheese, salami, and flowers to swimming pool toys. This street, as well as another street parallel to it, has quite a few stores including a small department store; however tourists must remember that they are closed on Sunday ! The train station is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel and has a small convenience store that is open every day. Considering that we were with teenagers who are not too adventurous when it comes to food, we finally found a reasonably priced restaurant on the main street (east end) that suited everyone’s palates: we could dine inside or outside and the menu included pizzas, pastas, as well as some regional specialties. The small Tourist Office is a 1 minute walk from the hotel and boats can be boarded close to the hotel for trips along the lake. All in all there are some less expensive hotels in this area but we were happy that we splurged for the Mont Blanc au Lac hotel – its beautiful setting on the lake was worth it.

This hotel is to die for its location. It is bank opp to the lake and across the lakes are mountains and that includes the Mont Blanc peak - Simply breathtaking. If you are lucky you can get a room with the harbour view and while the rooms are small, they are cozy. The staff though not friendly is efficient. The breakfast is not elaborate but is good! On a sunny day you can sit in the outside restaurant and enjoy the sunshine or a walk by the lakeside if you have the time. They have free wifi in the rooms which is great.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a lake view

Our rooms were great with fantastic views. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant downstairs had the best coffee ever!

This hotel used to be a Best Western but is now part of the Romantik chain. This is definitely the worst Romantik hotel we have ever stayed at. The service is poorly trained. The upkeep has been neglected. The hotel needs a renovation. I have written to the management at Romantik Hotels.

We arrived here quite late and had a couple of drinks on the terrace. Our room had a lake view and was perfectly comfortable, only thing lacking was a bar of soap! Slightly disconcerting was the can of fly spray in the room, but we didn’t see any flies anywhere! Breakfast was good, plenty of choice. Bar, breakfast and reception desk staff were all very pleasant. We were off elsewhere after breakfast, so can’t comment on restaurant food, but this seems to be a pleasant place in a great location.

We stayed just one night in the hotel and would strongly recommend it. The room was charmingly decorated and well equipped with a lovely view of Lake Geneva. The hotel had lovely public rooms and a nice outdoor terrace restaurant. The location could not be better - on the promenade next to the lake, near the boat quay where you can catch cruise boats for the lake. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was included in the room rate and it was plentiful and tasty. Dinner was excellent although not cheap. The restaurant staff were particularly helpful (we had to move inside when it started to rain!!) and friendly. This is the second Romantik hotel we have used and both have been great.

Morges is a lovely spot - a flower-edged promenade all along the lakeside, a chateau and park, and a beautiful pedestrianised main street with nice shops and plentiful excellent cafes
