“Excellent for your stay in Nyon near Geneva”
Reviewed 16 November 2012

Easy to find walking only some minutes downtown in direction to the Lake Geneva I found this hotel building in traditional style expressing convenience and a save and pleasant stay. I spent the night in a nice clean aircon room with wifi, tv, minibar and phone, small floor and bathroom to take shower and use toilet. I asked the friendly receptionist where to find a typical swiss cocktailbar and he recommended me to go upstairs to the castle nearby only 10-15 minutes to walk, and this was a good place then to emjoy the atmosphere. I came back after midnight, the hotel was very calm and I could sleep excellent. Next morning I enjoyed the breakfast buffet, not luxury but good enough to choose among 2 kinds of fruit juice, tea, coffee, water, bread, croissants, butter, ham, cheese, marmelade, fruit ... grab an egg. I went out to do my business. When I checked out I looked around to find a souvenir from Switzerland, so I bought a Swiss pocket knife in the lobby which looks nice and remembers me of the stay there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with overview to the Lake of Geneva!

If you want to stay outside Geneva in a small town 20 mins away by train, Nyon is the place for you. I lived in this town for 4 years so know it well. It's a gorgeous town with a chateau, Roman history and great lakeside walks. Beautiful....wonderful parks for young children by the lakeside too.
The "hotel des Alpes' is really the closest hotel you can walk to with your luggage from the railway station (about 5 mins max). You don't need a car, as there are plenty of trains along Lake Geneva in both directions, plus good bus service around the town. The hotel overlooks the 'place perdtemps' car parking area, so if you do bring your own wheels there's usually plenty of parking (for a fee)....unless some official function is on, when the car park may be full.
The hotel was being renovated when I stayed in Feb 2012: Swiss hotels are pricey, and I liked the fact I could choose a 'non' renovated room which was reflected in the price......everything still works, the decor is just dated.
If you get a room on 3rd or 4th floor facing Place Perdtemps, you are above any traffic noise (mostly) and get a good view over the rooftops of the old town (300 yds' away) and out to the lake and the Mont Blanc range beyond.
The hotel restaurant is very old-fashioned and breakfast is predictable....a few croissants, French/ German bread and a small cold meat/cheese selection...nothing very exciting...plus if you pay for the breakfast with your room you have to get your own coffee (the watered down variety ) from a machine, whereas if you do 'coffee' a la carte in the main restaurant you get a much better cup from the bar area.
The location of the hotel is great, if you want to be in the middle of town and close to transport links. Because of that it's worth paying the high price for rooms, but eat out as much as you can, and enjoy wandering around Nyon on foot. If you're in the town between late May and early September, pay a visit to the municipal swimming pool (you can get a bus from the railway station...ask for 'Colovray'). It's one of the loveliest swimming pools in the world (from a girl who's swum in more than a few), Olympic-size, with great lap lanes and separate pools and play areas for children. The grounds run straight down to the lake so you can freshwater swim in Lake Geneva if you prefer....and if that's not enough, there's a stunning view of Mont Blanc.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking Place Perdtemps on 3rd or 4th floor for better view.

Lovely location, within 2 minutes walk of the Gare de Nyon and with a long-range view of the lake. Close to town but a very 70s feel to the decor, small, no-frill bedrooms. Breakfast quite basic and service is ok except from in the restaurant, which is occasionally surly.

Room Tip: Ask for one not facing the main room; usually quieter.

Bottom line about this property: find another place to stay in Nyon. I regret the time I spent in this property. I was placed in this property by my company and I have made sure they never do it again. The room I stayed in was awful. The bed was too small (I nearly fell off the bed a few times). The bathroom is small, dirty and uncomfortable. The bathroom mat was full of mold. The shower area is too small for a human being (unless you are a child). The desk does not have outlets for a computer or to charge the mobile phone. The breakfast offered by the hotel is very poor and the same every single morning. The fact that the hotel lacks free wifi internet service I consider it backwards and abusive. The alternative they offer is very costly and absurd. The free wifi service is a must in most of the world. It is embarrassing that in a country like Switzerland they charge for internet.

Best thing about this hotel : it's very close to the train station and the center in general.

Otherwise, it's very hard to sleep when your window is on the street's side, cos it's so loud cos of the cars man! Couldn't sleep for a long time.
Rooms are very old, TV is a tiny little box and u gotta need good glasses to be able to watch it from your bed. What pissed me is the lack of plugs !! I wanted to charge my phone and my computer, while watching a movie on it in the bed and I couldn't cos there was absolutely no plug around. The only one was near the desk and actually I couldn't plug my thingy, it couldn't go in even though I had the right connector.

I always look in every corner and under the bed when I'm in a hotel room, to say if it's clean or not. Honestly, I found hair and crumbs under the bed and near the side table.

Breakfast is ok but really not many choices at all, I was really expecting more for a 3 stars hotel...

Staff is ok, not rude but not exceptional either. They don't really smile and also I had to wait quite a long time at the reception.

I don't think this hotel is worth a 3 stars honestly. For me it's definitely more 2 stars. Like I said, the only good thing is the location, the rest is really so so.

Stayed at this hotel several times on business. Every time I have been given a back room and every time I have had to get it changed. Last room I was in the floor was soaking wet (puddle). I have even had a room with dangerous electrics.

Basic room at back - whilst it had lots of facilitites (to ensure * rating), they were all pretty shabby. Though it was quiet and near the train station.

Breakfast was poor.

There are better choices by the lake i think.

Also, the photo associated with this hotel, isnt the right one!
