I am a regular business traveller to Hotel Des Alpes. It's my hotel of choice when in Nyon. Great location (middle of town and near train station), pleasant feeling, and rooms are sometimes on the small side, but comfortable and have everything you need. The breakfast is great, and the hotel is decent (although really that doesn't matter, as there is a good selection of excellent restaurants nearby). The staff will treat you as you treat them - invest some politneness and friendliness and you will get the same back. Be rude and offhand, and you will get paid back in spades! I would recommend it - good price for what you get, and nice rooms and overall comfort.

The only good thing I can say about the Hotel des Alpes is that it is convenient to the train station and in a decent neighborhood. Otherwise, it was a disappointment in every way. We could have stayed near the station in nearby Geneva for half the price in a much nicer hotel.

The rooms all seem to have that old, musty, stale-smoke smell (even the so-called 'non smoking' rooms that we had). There was a whole lot of mold in the bathroom, and plenty of cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling. The pillow was made out of something not unlike sawdust, and the entire place was so dusty that my allergies flared up with a vengence. For CHF 200 per night, this place was a rip off.

I stayed at the DesAlpes for two nights, and was satisfied. Although the hotel is listed as a three star hotel, it seemed quite a step down from the excellent three-star I visited in Paris; someone explained that this is because France has a maximum of four stars, while Switzerland has five. Hence a Swiss three-star hotel might be the equivalent only of a French two-star. Something to consider.

The room was large and old-fashioned, with high ceilings, and a balcony from which one could see Lake Geneva and the French shore opposed. The huge city parking-lot stretches out majestically from the hotel.

The restaurant was OK but a much better meal is to be had at the Mekong along the quai--the best Asian (esp. Vietnamese) food I have eaten in years. The hotel breakfast is not up to snuff. Sometimes there are no plates, bread lies about haphazardly, and the staff are curt. But it's free. I'd stay here again, though I'd just as soon not.
