This was my second visit to Pontresina and I decided to stay and this property. It was a very good decision.
My experience was first rate from the very first moment when I drove up and without identify myself was greeted by name.
I had booked a junior suite which I found to be large and very comfortable. There was a bedroom area and a separate sitting-living room area. Both areas had a large flat screen television with both CNN and BBC. The sitting area had a couch, coffee table, desk, and mini-fridge. To my delight there was a Nespresso-style coffee maker.
The room had a very large balcony but be aware it is only semi-private on the first floor. This was never an issue but I could easily have crossed into the space of the neighboring room and them vice versa. I do not believe this is an issue with higher floor rooms. This room had two large doors-windows that provided for good ventilation.
In one direction there was a good view of the mountains. Looking towards town - the town - and at this time a construction crane which is being used to build a new post office.
A delightful surprise was the quality of the food. Dinner is a five course menu that is written in French and German. The staff will translate as required. Typically there is a choice of three soups, then a couple of salads, a salad buffet, choice of mains, and choice of desserts to include a table of cheeses.
On the Thursday that I was there a very large and extremely nice starter buffet. On Sunday there was an exceptional dessert buffet. The restaurant is high end with guests encouraged to dress elegantly. Many men were dressed in suits and ties. For me - casual was the best I could manage.
Nonetheless, the service I was provided was top notch. I requested a larger table so that my companions - a laptop and tablet would be happy. No problem. I am sure they do not see many guests with laptops at dinner but once again - friendly and uncompromising service.
Breakfast was good with a good selection of the expected items. There was also scrambled eggs and bacon.
Several times I used the pool and Jacuzzi. Both were extremely nice.
I observed but did not use the public spaces. The bar in the evening had live piano music which appeared very pleasant.
My rate include a Engadin card which provides full access to buses and lifts and makes visiting the area effortless.
I would highly recommend this property.
