“Exceeded Expectations - Exceptional”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

This was my second visit to Pontresina and I decided to stay and this property. It was a very good decision.

My experience was first rate from the very first moment when I drove up and without identify myself was greeted by name.

I had booked a junior suite which I found to be large and very comfortable. There was a bedroom area and a separate sitting-living room area. Both areas had a large flat screen television with both CNN and BBC. The sitting area had a couch, coffee table, desk, and mini-fridge. To my delight there was a Nespresso-style coffee maker.

The room had a very large balcony but be aware it is only semi-private on the first floor. This was never an issue but I could easily have crossed into the space of the neighboring room and them vice versa. I do not believe this is an issue with higher floor rooms. This room had two large doors-windows that provided for good ventilation.

In one direction there was a good view of the mountains. Looking towards town - the town - and at this time a construction crane which is being used to build a new post office.

A delightful surprise was the quality of the food. Dinner is a five course menu that is written in French and German. The staff will translate as required. Typically there is a choice of three soups, then a couple of salads, a salad buffet, choice of mains, and choice of desserts to include a table of cheeses.

On the Thursday that I was there a very large and extremely nice starter buffet. On Sunday there was an exceptional dessert buffet. The restaurant is high end with guests encouraged to dress elegantly. Many men were dressed in suits and ties. For me - casual was the best I could manage.

Nonetheless, the service I was provided was top notch. I requested a larger table so that my companions - a laptop and tablet would be happy. No problem. I am sure they do not see many guests with laptops at dinner but once again - friendly and uncompromising service.

Breakfast was good with a good selection of the expected items. There was also scrambled eggs and bacon.

Several times I used the pool and Jacuzzi. Both were extremely nice.

I observed but did not use the public spaces. The bar in the evening had live piano music which appeared very pleasant.

My rate include a Engadin card which provides full access to buses and lifts and makes visiting the area effortless.

I would highly recommend this property.

From the time we were greeted at the front door to the time the front desk said goodbye, we were given first class service. Daniel was our server for breakfast and he was the best. Desserts in the afternoon, as well as other nice amenities made our stay wonderful.

Room Tip: Our room was on the front of the hotel with a balcony.

We stayed at the Walther in April 2014 with our 2 teenage daughters. It was our fourth visit.
It is no coincidence that virtually all the reports on Tripadvisor are so complimentary about it. It is an outstanding hotel and it is very difficult to find fault with anything.
The hotel is situate in a quiet position on the edge of Pontresina with lovely views of the mountains. From the moment you enter the hotel the staff and owners are very friendly and go to great lengths to ensure guests are looked after. The standard of cleanliness everywhere is excellent. We had half board. There is a menu for dinner and the quality of food is of a high standard, such that there is no real need to eat in the Stueva Gault Milau rated restaurant.
You see the same staff one year after another which is good for continuity. There is great attention to detail. Clearly the owners succeed in ensuring everything in the hotel runs smoothly. There is a good size indoor pool and spa.
We stay in many good hotels in Europe, but always there is a sense of added pleasure staying at the Walther. It is a family run hotel and always a joy to visit.

We spent a long weekend at teh Walther and were delighted by teh excellent service, the traditionell Swiss atmosphere and the wonderful spa. The hotel isn't posh, it let you experience the genuine feeling of Swiss hospitality, led since three generations by the Walther family!

Room Tip: Well ... choose a room with a view overlooking the valley and the mountains!

This property has it all, but mostly an incredibly charming and helpful staff. The hotel is up to the standards of the area, but is still warm and friendly. Classy and clean, with an incredible restaurant. Family owned and operated and you can feel it. The owner even visited with our group during the fabulous dinners we enjoyed on site whilst there. Location was great to a classical music concert in the forest, to town, to hiking. Ahhh, would love to return!
