Friends from Geneva who visit Sils regularly tipped us off to this Residenza which is a real find. The area of Sils has a number of hotels and pensiones and this place falls into the latter category.
It's a 3-4 minute walk from where the Post Bus drops you off (the first of the Sils stops, Sils/Seglias) and the multi-unit property is a great place to stay if planning to hike in the area (or rent bikes, horseback ride, shop in St. Moritz, take sailing or kitesailing lessons on Silvaplana Lake, etc.)
The unit we stayed in is all-inclusive: small kitchen pretty well-fitted out, fine bathroom, and an L-shaped main room. In that section there was a sitting area with sofa (fold-out sleeper sofa which we didn't need), chair, small TV and stereo and a door to the nice balcony. Seating area with banquette and chairs for meals, probably could seat 6 but there were just the 4 of us.
The L part was a nook that curtains partitioned off at night with two twin beds in it. Parents took the nook.
Then there were two Murphy beds (fold-down beds) in the main room that the kids got (9 and 12) at night. They, of course, thought the beds were extremely cool.
Perfectly fine for our family - only challenge was having the kids in the open area meant you couldn't really watch TV without keeping them up so it was enforced early retiring for everyone.
Views from the valley floor were amazing, Out one window was Silvaplana lake; directly in front was a mountain range with a gondola across two fields from our front door; and the third window showed views up up the valley.
I think the property has both vacation rentals and possibly time-shares or even full-timers; hard to tell. One serious bonus for the kids was an indoor pool which they spent hours in even after hiking all day.
Small grocery 5 minutes away. Several restaurants and a number of hotel restaurants all within 10 minutes walk. Bike rental next to the grocery at an Intersport location. Town charming and walkable and beyond picturesque, esp. in late summer when flowers are blooming wildly out of everyone's window boxes.
Too many possible hikes to begin to number. Lots of maps. Everything marked well.
M. et Mme. Rominger who manage the Residenza are very helpful. Mme. Rominger speaks English and is charming. Fresh bread can be delivered daily if you'd like to choose your variety. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby. Price worked out to around $130 a night which included the final cleaning and all linens. The place was SPOTLESS and the kitchen linens had all been ironed!
Definitely recommend this special spot.
