“great time at the alphubel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2008

This is a great little hotel. Mostly geared towards families but good for couples & singles too. Although at the end of the village away from the ski lifts they provide a great free taxi service & ski locker service near the gondola station. The hotel has charm, is clean & comfortable, and the meals provided are excellent. The best thing about the hotel is the enthusiastic themed entertainment provided most evenings by the owner family (including good Swiss music & fantastic firework display outside in the snow). The hotel added to the enjoyment of the ski holiday. The only complaint I would have would be regarding the old feather pillows, which if you suffer from allergies, can lead to uncomfortable nights.

This was our third time at the Alphubel - last time was for our honeymoon. The Alphubel is in a great location with outstanding views over the village and over the mountains.

The Supersaxo family never fail to entertain and ensure that our every need is catered for. They are a truly talented bunch, we particularly love the bell ringing and flag throwing.

We always go for a south facing balcony room so we can sit out and marvel at the views and catch a few rays in the afternoons.

Each year we return, the Supersaxos remember us and it is like we are returning to see old friends. We know that we are guaranteed a relaxing holiday at the Alphubel so will probably keep coming back - we have met people there who have been there every year for 20+ years.

We are not skiiers but love walking and Saas Fee is a fantatstic place for this. If we could afford to, we would buy a place in the village and move here.

  • Liked — The Supersaxo hospitality
  • Disliked — I would agree with another member - the pillows are a bit flat!

This was probably the very best summer holiday we have had as a family. The hotel is very good, but the views and location are awesome. South facing rooms have a magnificent view out over the glacier and the town.

The welcome we had from the Supersaxos was outstanding. Our two children (aged 7 and 4) had a wonderful time, and could not have been made more at home.

This is not just a family hotel. Most of the guests were couples taking a late summer break - some returning for the 24th year running! Herr Supersaxo is an expert mountaineer and is renouned for his guided walks and his evening entertainments (Alphorn, glockenspiel, Swiss bells, dancing, fireworks). Altogether a wonderful, wonderful place. We will return.

The Alphubel is run by a family for families. Nothing seems too much trouble for the hard working staff at The Alphubel; Herr Supersaxo and his family provide a tremendous five course meal every evening, the end of which is accompanied by his own brand of one-off entertainment. One evening we were treated to the Alpenhorn (and invited to join in); another evening he and his son played the glockenspiel using a hundred or so cowbells; another evening there was an impromptu disco for the children. Alternatively dinner might be accompanied by a slideshow showing the history of Saas-Fee.
And this is all done with the utmost charm by the extremely gifted proprietors who go out of their way to ensure that their guests have an enjoyable, entertaining and memorable stay.
Downsides? Well it is on the other side of the village from the ski slopes, but because they have an arrangement with their sister hotel free lockers are available at the very foot of the slopes so there is no lugging of boots and skis required and they run their own free electric taxi service for guests. Plus the views from the hotel rooms across the village up into the mountains are spectacular.
On the morning we left, at 6.00 am, Frau Supersaxo came down with us to the bus-station - not that she was going anywhere at that time of day - but just to personally wish us bon voyage!

Excellent hotel, very near the car park with great food and atmosphere. Really good if you have children and enjoy a little Swiss culture. Very friendly staff and management.

Well, if you have kids, this place is for you! the most helpful, understanding and entertainig hotel we have stayed in. It's not entertainment 'butlins style' but rather a feast of eccentricity by the owner, Mr Supa-Saxo! He is without doubt at the heart of what makes the Alphubel such a great place to stay. The hotel has its own kids worker which allows parents and adults to leap into the sauna without wondering what tricks the kids might be up to. All in all, if you like quirky, you'll love the Alphubel.

We spent five days in February 2003 in this hotel. This was an absolute perfect experience. Beside the perfect weather (!), we were warmly welcomed already at the car parking at the entrance of the resort. The hotel is perfect for families with small kids, the kindergarden is very nice and free of charge. They would even bring you your kids to the ski place and meet there. The meals were wonderful, even too much to eat.
Breakfast was great also. Every evening except on Sundays, activities were proposed to the kids, such as games, disco, sledge... my little ones (3 and 5.5 at that time) loved it. A nice bottle of wine was prepared for us on our departure. Not expensive at all either !!
