“Saas Fee”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

We choose Saas Fee for a ski holiday in late April 2014. We were there for 5 days from 21-25 April inclusive and choose Saas Fee for its late season snow record and it delivered big time!!! Two days of snow just before we arrived combined with the high altitude and glaciers meant the snow was GREAT. We flew from Edinburgh to Geneva and then got the train to Visp and Post Bus to Saas Fee. A very easy and efficient journey. The resort is top notch too. No cars, pretty and very friendly people. For anyone wanting an end of season ski holiday this is the place to go. Duncan and Iona Beattie

“Amazing resort with some breathtaking views”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

This is a great resort for late season skiing and snowboarding. Long after a lot of the other resorts are showing grass/dirt/rocks, there is still lots of snow at Saas Fee. The glacier covers the top part of the resort which will always have ridable areas. The resort is serviced by a number of gondolas and to get to the peak you have to ride the funicular which runs inside the mountain. There is a larger number of t-bars and button lifts, and the terrain is more suited for experienced skier and snowboarders. The runs seem to be a bit more advanced than outlined on the trail maps. In the spring the conditions will vary from icepack to slush as you head down the mountain, but there was still some good off-piste bowls and areas still open. As with most things in switzerland it's not cheap, and there didn't seem to be an 'off-season' price but they do have the 1/2 tickets if you want to save money and go up later in the day. The resort does have a number of restaurants including a Michelin guide recommended location. The town at the foot of the resort is interesting as that no cars are allowed in and only serviced by small electric vehicles.

“Saas Fee - a gem”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

Saas Fee sits in a really stunning bowl of huge peaks with amazing views everywhere. The glaciers are huge and impressive and their presence means that the runs at the top of the mountain are snow sure all season. The village itself has real charm with only relatively low rise and traditional architecture dominating. It is free of conventional traffic - just small electric carts allowed on the resort streets.
I am a high intermediate level skier and have skied for some 25 years all over the alps so am able to compare and contrast with many other resorts and I would put Saas Fee near the top of most stunning locations to ski.
There are some drawbacks as always. The village is only ski in ski out from a very small number of properties due to the resort being bounded along it length by rocky and tree lined hills. Only properties at the West end of the village can be reached on skis so if you have small children you need to check carefully your location for the nursery slops - which are very gentle so excellent for genuine beginners and unlike a lot of resorts they are not the return runs to the village so beginners don't have skiers whizzing past then the whole time.
If you want a huge area of runs and mostly black then Saas Fee isn't likely to suit. The runs are nearly all red and blue and but very enjoyable and I loved the skiing at the top of the mountain.
There are no skiing links to Saas Grund or Saas Almagell that are covered on the lift pass. It's a real yomp from the slopes to the bus station in Saas Fee and so I could never face doing this to get to the other ski areas - which look really small anyway.

The lift pass is extremely expensive at some £340 for a week, but in mid March 2014 I never queued once for any lifts/chairs/drags.

For non-skiers there are some really stunning walks in the tree lined hills above the resort. There are numerous sign-posted walks starting in the village and we loved these.

All in all the combination of snow quality, lack of queues, scenery and resort charm means that Saas Fee is really worth a visit, If you hate walking far in ski boots then check very carefully before you book, but other than that it's a great place for a week's skiing.

“Good late season skiing”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

Even after two weeks of sunshine and rather warm weather the snow was still acceptable. It was though getting slushy at the lower levels in the afternoon. The restaurants on the slopes were good and in the whole offered variety.

Although it is more difficult to get to than the French resorts it was worth the 2 1/2 hour train trip from Geneva airport to Visp and the 50 minute bus ride from Visp to Saas Fee - both efficient, comfortable and very scenic. Not so many easy runs if you don't like button lifts and T bars but if you take te gondolas up you have nice long moderate runs right back down to the town.
