Just returned from a glorious week of skiing in Saas Fee and stayed at Hotel Europa 3* and it was great. I did read the previous review and perhaps like we all know once one thing goes wrong EVERYTHING seems to snowball into something bigger than it is as we have all been there.
First off the staff (Guido and the other shorter gentleman) are the best staff I have ever encountered and I have a strong hotel pedigree so can tell the good ones from the bad. They were very attentive and nothing was ever too much for them to do so much so that if you did not like an option on the menu they would offer a substitute (pesto sauce instead of cream on your past for example).
Yes it is true it is not like other resorts where you can ski from the hotel door to the slope but it is a very short walk (10-15 minutes if that) through a gorgeous village or if you don’t fancy that you can take the complimentary shuttle to the slopes that leave every half hour from about 8 (don’t quote me on that) and there is even a return one in the evenings if your legs are burning from the fantastic skiing. Besides while you walk back from the slopes it gives you the opportunity to enjoy the apres ski while walking the streets as it is all pedestrian with only very small electric vehicles moving about.
The spa facilities are wonderful with a steam room, sauna, aromatherapy room, pysio therm booth, relaxation area and whirlpool. There is free wifi for those who cannot leave the emails alone for a moment in the lobby (24/7). The rooms are clean and they even provide you with a lovely bathrobe for the week.
Yes depending on the room you are in you may or may not see the mountains but to be fair if you are going skiing are you really looking at the mountain from your room or skiing down it looking at the village? I have done a fair bit of travelling and stayed at the 5-7* places where they will comb your hair if you ask and I have also stayed on the other end (cheap and cheerful). All that to say that this hotel is nice but I would say that if you can spare the extra £50 or so for the week I would go 3* versus 2* as we met a couple who stayed in the 2* and described it as 'cozy'. By no stretch of the imagination was it a suite but it was comfortable because like I said earlier, you wake up eat breakfast and hit the slopes, return go to the spa then get ready for dinner and if you can keep your eyes open you have a walk around the village if not you are in bed waiting to do it all over again.
For those who want a very nice cup of hot chocolate before heading back to the hotel I can say that Coftee (yes spelt correctly) is the best place in town and one that opens the latest (11 p.m.). Also a nice bar to go to is called Poison and is not far from the hotel.
So in short it is a nice clean place but like they mentioned paying for tap water seems a bit excessive but on the other hand what you actually get is not a bad deal for the price. If I were to ever go back to Saas Fee I would stay there again.
Just my opinion.
