“Lovely staff, but hotel needs to be pepped up”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

We stayed here in December with our family. We were in the beginning disappointed because the hotel looks a lot nicer on the website photos then in reality. The rooms are a bit old, but the beds are good and everything worked fine. What we missed is that there is no longer a restaurant for lunch/dinner (only breakfast). There is a lobby where you can sit, but it is really dark and we did not find it attractive to sit. Also it closed at 10 pm so in the evening if you want a drink or so you have to go outside the hotel.
The staff is very friendly and helpful so that makes up for some of the things missing. If you are staying with kids and need an easy hotel (across the street from ski hire/skischool, supermarket, but a bit of a walk to the lifts) and you don't care much about atmosphere then it is ok.
We only used the sauna/hottubs once but it is nice to have it in the hotel.
We enjoyed spending some time at the hotel nearby at the Ferienart hotel, there they have a lovely spa and swimming pool.

Room Tip: We had the family suite which has 2 bed rooms/one small living area/one bathroom. I would not recomm...

We have been to this hotel twice in one year and we are planning on heading back for a third! Although some of the rooms are looking a little tired and could do with a refurbishment, they are clean and tidy. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. It is not a lively hotel but it is a good family friendly one.
As for the food, it is the best I have ever tasted on a ski holiday. The evening meals are always beautifully presented, very well cooked and tasty! The breakfast is always good as well giving you plenty of choice between healthy, cooked and cold.
The location is good as well, you have a lovely view from one side of the hotel out across the mountains. Although there is a 5-10 minute walk along to the ski slopes and ski schools but as there are no cars allowed in Saas Fe it makes the walk pleasant. Just watch out for the electric floats that you can't hear!!
We are looking forward to heading back at New Year and hopefully staying at this hotel.

I've been there beginning of August. I've been in a single room on a high floor. The room was nicely decorated, well furnished, spotless, and with a fantastic view. The breakfast was very good also, and the service great.

This is a lovely hotel centrally located. We stayed in a family room which was perfect. Twin beds pushed together downstairs in a very spacious room and double bed upstairs in attic room which our young daughter loved. Lovely big bathroom with double sink, bath and shower. Very high standards of cleanliness. Hotel breakfast very nice and plentiful. Nice outside area and bar. Staff are friendly and helpful. There were only two downsides which was no tea or coffee making facilities in bedroom which is normal for swiss so a cuppa tea from hotel bar will cost a fortune and they have no idea how to make an English cuppa tea, I had mine made for me in a tall glass with hot milk! Also dinner was taken in a neighbouring hotel which didn't cater very well for vegetarians, the same 3 vegi options every night got very tedious, also the waitresses were very abrupt and not very friendly but this was in different hotel where evening meals were taken. The du glacier is highly recommended and Saas Fee is much better than Zermatt.

Quiet and at the centre, quite nice rooms. A very old hotel that was very nicely renovated. Food was quite good. One problem though: the "Glacier" Hotel seems to have a problem with water !!! you have to pay for tab water in the restaurant (even if your purchase a bottle of wine !) and at the spa you only have tepid water (at the temperature of the spa...) with ... no glasses or just a couple for all the customers!

The location of Hotel du Glacier is perfect: short 5-minute walk to the main ski lift and literally 10 steps away from heart of the village. Our family of 5 stayed in a Mischabel suite with two bedrooms and a large living room. It also included a small balcony, bathing in afternoon sun. The staff was very friendly throughout our stay. We made several small requests, all reasonable, and they were all handled right away and with a smile. Breakfast was tasty, with good selection. Cannot comment on dinner, as we ate out every night. Which was easy, due to central location of the hotel, and reception also helped making reservations for us. Only negative detail, and it's a very small one, when checking out they advised that there is a deposit of 20 CHF on room keys, each. (And we had 5 keys...) As such, a reasonable demand, but it would have been more fair to inform us upon arrival. Luckily, we still had all the 5 keys.

Room Tip: Mischabel suite was great for a family of five.

Hotel centrally located in village, close to shops, restaurants, bars and Alpin Express cable car.
Hotel electric taxi picks you up on arrival with your luggage from the edge of the village, car free zone.
Luggage delivered direct to room, skis and boots taken straight to ski locker room - thanks to Ralph the porter.
Staff very welcoming and friendly, part of check in is a welcome meeting where all the hotels amenities and advice on the surrounding area was competently explained by Sabrina.
Rooms are spacious with all the usual fittings, watch out for the feather pillows which can be slightly uncomfortable, extra pillows are available on request.
By far the finest point of this hotel is the food, breakfast is buffet style with almost everything you could want, fresh salmon everyday! Cooked breakfast dishes are available on request. Evening meal consists of 4 courses, the quality of which is outstanding. Each course having at least 2 choices.
The hotel has a spa, with jacuzzis, saunas and steam room, now in true Swiss style the dress code in the spa is - well there is no dress code! However, swimwear can be worn, but you do have to divert your gaze.
For skiers/ snowboarders Ralph and his taxi can be arranged to take and collect you from the ski lifts if prearranged, free of charge, but to be honest the nearest lift, Alpin Express, can be reached walking in 3 - 4 mins.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a stay in Saas Fee.
