Reviewed 23 September 2007

We stayed in the Hotel Belvedere for a week ending 23rd Sept 2007 and were very happy indeed with the experience.
The review of this hotel dated 27th August 2007 says most of it, but I have to add that the room we had was very large, with a balcony and a decent sized bathroom with shower. So when you book, and I recommend you do, then ask for a room with balcony. We had room 110, so 210 and 310 will all be similar.
The north and east facing rooms have a view of the road or over the building next door, so pay the extra and get a south or west facing room with fantasic views over the valley to the mountains.
Overall a very nice place, with extremely friendly staff.
Is the wine expensive? No more so than any other 4 star hotel.
Buying by the glass is more economical as they do not measure but pour by eye, and the staff are more than generous with the measures.
We would definately stay there again.

Our second visit to this hotel and we would happily (and probably will) use it again. Overall we felt that, although the rooms were on the small side, the extras included in the room price, excellent food and service make this by Swiss standards value for money for a four star hotel.

The hotel is being extended (due to be completed by the end of 2007) but the works had been planned so that they did not intrude on our stay. It would be worth checking whether the facilities and room options have changed for 2008.

Although we booked four months ahead rooms were heavily booked - especially the single rooms - and we had to change the dates of our planned stay in order to make a reservation. On both our visits the hotel appeared to be full so booking ahead may be neccessary.

The hotel is open all the year round (many hotels in the area only open for the summer and winter seasons). It was noticeable that this had enabled the Hotel to retain and develop most of the staff from our previous visit which contributed to the excellent service we received. Although not expected, it was appreciated that many of the staff could speak better English than on our previous visit (Most of the locals have German as a second language after Romansh as their first.)

We felt our room was small for a four star hotel. On our previous visit we had a larger room but only a small shower room. This time for a similar price we had a smaller room but with a bath in the en suite. The rooms have been recently refurbished and as with the whole hotel were very clean. We took a room on the north (road) side of the hotel which costs a little less than the south (mountain views) side but we thought it would be cooler and noise from the road is minimal. My father had a well appointed single room with a south side view at no extra charge and didn't have any complaints other than it was on the small side for a four star hotel and (as with all rooms in the tower) had no lift access. All rooms not in the tower appear to have lift access.

The hotel offers excellent meals. Breakfast was an extensive hot and cold buffet including local specialities. Dinner was five courses. If the weather is good you can ask to eat on the terrace which (in addition to great views) may be prefereable during hot weather as there is no air conditioning. We felt that the wine list was overpriced but no more so than every other Swiss Hotel we have stayed at (from about CHF50 per bottle). There was live music in the bar and reaturant most evenings (usually piano) which we found a welcome addition rather than an intrusion.

Our room rate also included were free use of the town's spa (although you pay extra for the Roman Irish Baths). The attractive spa includes hot cold & salt water pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms, sauna's sun lamps etc. We found a trip to the spa excellent relaxation after a day out walking. The hotel provide bath robe, towel and slippers and bag and there is a covered 200m or so covered walkway linking the hotel directly to the spa. You need ot bring you own bathing costume.

Our room rate also included free use of the local busses and trains in the Lower Engadine and Mustair valleys (in the summer this is extended to the local cable car and chair lifts but not we udnerstand in the winter). Although the main bus stops are five minutes walk away the town bus stops right outside and saves a fifteen minute (uphill walk to the station). The hotel taxi/minibus transported us and our luggage to/from the station at the start and end of our stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Belvedere Scuol during the weekend from the 27th to the 29th of October 2006. A GREAT EXPERINECE. The Hotel is in a perfect position with direct connection to the SPA, the restaurant is great and the whole Team was very efficient and kind! Not to miss: the internat SPA of the Hotel and the Irish Roman Bath at the main SPA. We will come back as soon as possible. Tiziano, Stefano, Juri & Javier

PROS:
**Location is great with the connecting walkway to spa, would be great for winter guests. NOTE: Due to the family friendly atmosphere of the spa, go before 11am if you want a more peaceful serene experience. The spa temps offer more of a warm swimming pool experience in a beautiful setting. But once the kiddies roll in, relaxation becomes difficult. There is a naked zone for adults only, but the main pools available to kids were better.
**Loved the 5 course dinner, was delicious! Book for a Saturday night when the dessert is buffet style, great to try sample sizes of several desserts! Was a highlight of the trip.
**Piano bar was awesome. (A little short though.) We enjoyed this after our dinner from about 8:45 to 9:45 pm. Inquire at the desk when the pianist plays. It's delightful with a welcome drink and the veranda views of the mountains.
**Manager on duty was very nice at check out and offered us a ride back to the train station. (He was definitely nicer then the other front desk staff though, one of the receptionists was there every time we walked through the lobby during the 36 hours we were there. No wonder she was cranky when we asked about the pillow - see below.)
**Breakfast was great!

CONS:
**Didn't have an ironing board or iron available upon request and offered to iron our shirt and skirt for us for a $12 charge (15 CHF). Would have expected a hotel fronting exceptional calibre to provide guests with an iron.
**Pool just okay, hot tub requires additional payment, I think maybe $7 for 20 minutes?
**My husband has allergies and forgot his hypo allergenic stuff. He said they were a bit short with his request for any other type of pillow, but eventually got help to pull out another feather pillow from the closet as their offering. Did not help...ended up sleeping on towels. (Personally, I loved the feather comforter and pillows, but would think they would have a back up for others who don't share opinion.)
**Seemed exceptionally confusing for the wait staff that our 5 course dinner was included in the price of our room. They messed up our bill at dinner, then again at check out. Didn't really seem to have a handle on their guests, though they had made the dinner reservation for us.

We liked it a lot but it was a reach on our budget, so I don't think we'd stay there again.

We stayed two nights at the Belvedere Hotel in January 2004. Truely a lovely hotel with attention to detail and a fantastic cuisine, try to be seated in the Main (older) Dinning Room. Fantastic terrace. Enjoy the southern exposure. We will be back.
