“Loved it!”

Looked for a reasonable place to stay that wasn't a prefab chain hotel and found this bnb absolutely outstanding. The place has character, impeccably clean and is in the best location you can hope for in Leysin (the view is magnificient). We felt at home and at the same time free in a big house without constant supervision of the owners (often the case in bnb's). Worth recommending to all!

Room Tip: If you're prepared to pay slightly more for the balcony rooms, it's really worth it!

Any budget hotel can give you a bed and bathroom, but at Les Airelles we felt true character and personality - the hosts were fun, helpful and entertaining. I think I heard them say that the property used to be a castle built for a princess who may have had failing health, the wonderfully crisp air of the alps helped her breathe better. In addition to the rich history, we really enjoyed ourselves here - it was a great value, delicious breakfast, amazing views and very clean all around. As we were traveling around Europe (also visited France, London and Spain) nothing compared to the comfortable accomodations here at Les Airelles. After staying at motel type places along the way, this was seriously a breath of fresh air - we will be back!

Wonderful hosts, had me coming back for another visit. Between Michel and Helen they speak 5 languages! English, French, German, Dutch and Italian! The rooms are very large, clean and uniquely decorated. Great breakfast and free access to coffee and tea around the clock. Walking distance to train station (didnt even need a taxi with my luggage!) and cable car. We also had access to free wifi (in a world where so many hotels charge for wifi, every 24hrs.!). Really really great value for the money! Yes, the bathrooms are shared, but kept super clean! And we had our own sinks. Our bedroom (with Queen bed) had spectacular views of the alps...south facing! And a beautiful stone fireplace! Hosts are so helpful, and know everything there is to know about the village and the region (and gave us great tips on restaurants!). We didnt use it, but there's also a kitchen to use for guests, in addition to the breakfast! Close to many hiking trails. Good satelite TV in living room plus huge selection of free movies on Dvd. Playroom for my 6yr old too ;) Many thanks again Les Airelles!

Room Tip: If you have a little more to spend, go for rooms with Balcony (5 of them).

We had a wonderful time! Great view! Close to lifts. Relaxed and comfortable.
Walking distance from train.
Downside - asked for directions to get there - each person in the town told us something different, ended up catching a taxi - 500 metres and $10!!!! Oh well, everything else was great

Positive points:
View from the room
Leysin is a ski destination and we went during the summer so there were only a few guests staying there. Hence we got 2 rooms with a connected balcony that had fabulous views, even though we had asked for one room balcony and one without.

Negative points:
Cleanliness - We didn't find the interiors very clean and inviting - old sheets, old towels and generally a dull atmosphere.

Bathroom/toilet - There is only one bathroom + toilet (separate) for one floor, i.e about 5-6 rooms. This was not mentioned when we booked the rooms, else we wouldn't have considered it.
Since we were staying there during the low season it was fine. But we are not sure how people manage with that during high season. Attached bathroom/toilets are a standard feature of B&B rooms in the UK and it is usually in hostels that you have shared bathrooms. Maybe in Switzerland this is a common feature of B&Bs. Anyway we found that very unusual. Also the bathroom was pretty poor - small shower cubicle (if one can call that a cubicle) and dimly lit. Toilet was alright.
Wifi - No wifi access for the 3+ days we were there - absolutely none. We were told that there was a problem with the current router and they are expecting a new one (which was getting delayed). Anyway this was a big issue for us. We didn't find the B&B owners particularly helpful on this apart from suggesting some other places where we could access wifi. Anyway we went to the tourist information office down the road and they had free wifi for everyone. That actually helped us a lot.

This is our 4th year bringing university students here from california - outstanding! Great breakfast, cozy, friendly hosts - Michel and Helen are the best. Like coming home. Views too amazing to put words to. Come and enjoy this b & b and find out for yourself? Full use of the BBQ, kitchen for our group dinners.

Room Tip: Single and double rooms available. Community bathroom and shower on each floor
