The lounge and the dinning room are from an era and a style that you don't see any more. Grand in scale and grand in impression. The rooms are nice sized and clean. The bathrooms modern and clean. The staff was helpful in directing us to public transportation to the trail head for a hike. We also took the gondola to the Oeschinen Lake and found that lake to be overrated.... although perhaps we had become jaded by the overload of fantastic views we found whereever we were in the Alps.

Room Tip: A room opposite from the street side will give you a nice view of the mountains.

Had a very nice stay here in two large comfortable rooms. Service was very accommodating and pleasant. Food in the restaurant for dinner was excellent and the location was perfect for exploring the area. Bathroom was tiny but room and closet were both a very nice size.

Wonderful time in an outstanding apartment with fantastic views. We stayed in A1 4.5 apartment. 7 people and plenty of room. The apartment was very well furnished and had everything we needed and more. We will be returning. Kids loved the pool and the free wifi in the lobby meant they could chill out on the sofas with the tablet when we were not out and about. The staff and owners were all very welcoming especially Sam who gave my husband some advice about walks in the area and even lent him his own hiking map. We dined twice at Victoria, 1st a special barbeque night for Swiss day in the main dining room which was fantastic 2nd at the restaurant, the food was nice but portions were enormous and I struggled to eat even half of it. As stated in previous reviews some of the combinations on the menu sound a bit strange.
Kandersteg is a lovely quiet little village and this hotel has the best views. The village is home to the International Scout Centre and being a scout leader who had stayed with at the scout centre last year I knew what to expect- Scouts everywhere! If you are not very tolerant of kids then Kandersteg is not the place for you.

My husband and I stayed here for a week having booked with a travel company. We were allocated a Comfort room which turned out to be an interconnecting room! We were able to hear all sounds from the next room's bathroom.... not at all pleasant...! On day 2 we complained to reception and we were told that the travel company had booked us into the room but then the Manager offered us an apartment that was clearly a newly furbished room at the end of the building. That was very good but we have marked down the rooms as average given our room at the outset.
The hotel had loads of day trippers passing through; clearly a very busy venue. The dining room was very old and while the staff were very pleasant and helpful, there always seemed to be a load of flies present which was really off-putting when eating...

Room Tip: Ask for an apartment on the top floor with views of the mountains

Historical hotel, though the rooms are quite basic, but spacy and have balconies/terrace with the view. Free wi-fi only in the lobby.
For those with HB option, dinner is arranged in the huge hall, white tablecloth, silver cultery and candles - feel yourself a real Victorian :)
Five-minutes walk from the station, and Coop supermarket is just around the corner. Lifts for Oeschinensee are in 10-minutes walking distance.

We visited here as part of a group railway holiday. Hotels public areas were great but bedroom was a disappointment, especially our bathroom, which was old and very dated. The shower head was tiny (about the size of a 50p piece ) certainly not powerful enough and was an over the bath type, not good if you're older (as many of our party were). We had lino on the floor in bedroom. The balcony was a joke. 2 chairs of the white plastic type, stacked on top of each other, because 2 people couldn't sit on it a once it was so small! ok for drying stuff but not much else. The swimming pool was a good feature but I did notice a few tiles missing under the edge of the pool. As part of the group, our menu was limited, choice of 1 main or veggie option. also breakfast was limited choice. The coffee machine, as previously mentioned, was a talking point, and we had no instructions so had to get staff to show us: still had issues so In the end we gave up with it and used our travel kettle instead.
Location of hotel is great, but I wouldn't choose to stay there again, unless rooms were refurbished.

Dear Guest

Thank you for posting a review on our hotel. We appreciate your comments and will of course use them to improve our services.

We have a total of 5 different room categories: suites, mini-suites, comfort rooms, chalet style rooms and the more basic and simple standard rooms, which are of course the most inexpensive but have also not been refurbished. Unfortunately your tour company only book our cheaper standard rooms. For a small extra amount customers can upgrade to a higher room category. I'm not sure if the hotel was full during you stay, but we normally try to relocate customers that are unhappy with their accomodation. Did you contact our reception during your stay?

I'm very sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us but we hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again in one of our refurbished rooms. In fact 80% of the rooms have been refurbished.

Very kind regards,
Casimir Platzer, Mgr.

On arrival at our hotel we were very impressed with the large comfortable lounge area and fantastic dining area. Later we discovered a lovely outdoor seating area unfortunately it rained the 3days we was there. The rooms were very nice and traditional. Most of the staff were very helpful. and polite but as the time went on we became aware of a few issues. As part of a rail journey we didn't get a very good variety for breakfast and we had a choice of two meals for our evening meal, I must say that the food was very nice but the service wasn't always very good. The bathrooms were very small and not really up to standard, some people had problems with the coffee machine and they didn't seem to want to give you to many capsules for the machine, on arrival we had 2 teas and 1 coffee and it was the same the next day. The one thing that really disappointed was that even though it rained most of the time it was still very warm in all areas of the hotel and there wasn't any air conditioning or fans in the rooms , I would hate to think what it would be like on a hot summer ev. The restaurant and lounge was stifling! The bonus was you could open your window wide and let the insects in!

Room Tip: I'm not sure about all the rooms, unless you could see your room first I don't think I could...
