“Got ripped off”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

It could have been overall good experience but somehow we left the place extremely disappointed and with the feeling we got ripped off! Here is why: Passed the nice dinner experience and coming to the digestive, the waiter proposed two different types of cognac bottles: "well we have this small local producer which is good... and we have this other great cognac from Hennessy... which one do you want??". Obviously I decided to go for the second option! I realized how big mistake I did the next morning after the breakfast when I received the bill for the stay and I see 120CHF for 2 cl of Cognac!!! Not questioning the price itself, but the lack of information as the product was presented to me. I also found really disappointing that nothing was done from the management side to even try to find a way to make up for their mistake!

We left very disappointed and will not come back anytime soon!

We loved this hotel. The main floor (reception, dining room, lounge) and hallways have retained all the charm and character of an old hotel. Then enter your room and be totally surprised. Stunningly renovated, the rooms offer beautiful furniture, gorgeous bedding and linens, slick modern washrooms and speedy wifi service. Our room, on the top floor afforded us views into the old town and out over Lake Geneva. The hotel is just steps from Lake Geneva, its gracious walkways, and efficient ferry service to other locales along the lake.
Staff are extremely well informed about their area -The Lavaux Wine Terraces, ferry schedules, etc.
Must be because this is the French area of Switzerland, but the croissants served at breakfast are the best we have enjoyed anywhere.
If you are driving, parking is a bit of an issue. The hotel has none, however the staff provided us with an easy solution that worked well for our three day stay.
Don't stay in busy Montreux. Stay in the wine town of Cully right in the centre of the Lavaux area and stay at this hotel. The perfect holiday!

Room Tip: If possible, stay on the top floor ( the third ). If you are worried about stairs, there is an elev...

I was just there with my wife for one night (unfortunately!), as we rented a car in Basel and drove down to Geneva, with the intention to visit the Lavaux region (wine region in Switzerland) in just one day. Well, it was just too bad we didn't have more time because the place and service and overall experience was second to none (and trust me, I've been in multiple 5 star hotels over the years for business and pleasure…so I don’t get easily impressed by most common tourist places).

The funny thing is that I don't believe the hotel claims to be a highly rated one, but the following reasons made it a top-notch in our in minds: (1) Premier service by Arnoud Lemonnier (who is receptionist, concierge, waiter, room service, tourist guide, you name it…he does it all), and this very kind and knowledgeable person was key for our enjoyable stay; (2) Flavien Jacquier, the restaurant's chef that, aside of dazzling us with his treats, he stopped by after dinner to check that everything was fine and he was even willing to write down a recipe for a dish we asked (! ) Incidentally, the kitchen is all visible from the main hall, so you get to see the level of hygiene and cleanliness in that facility, and I felt that was a great touch to reassure customers the quality of the food prep and handling; (3) The room/bath quality, our room was “Pinot Gris”, and the quality cotton of our linens, the design and furniture from “la belle époque”, and yet the contrast with a very modern and functional bath—all immaculate; (4) The breakfast was yet another treat—not only because the quality of the croissants (too bad that the quantity was limited), but also because of the china used and true silverware (heavy and elegant, as the coffee pot was a silver piece); (5) Location, we almost ended in the bigger towns of Lauzanne or Vevey, and that would have been a mistake as the small town or Cully is much better stop than the larger cities. Also, you’re only a short walk to the “caveaux” (the wine tasting shops, that it’s a must visit as you walk through the vineyard terraces to get there, and those family operated places are as charming and welcoming as it gets). Therefore, I strongly recommend this hotel to even the most demanding guests.

Finally, the wine tasting was great (loved the whites)…so the only bad taste was the realization that it may take another year to get back there, and next time for hopefully few more days. So I highly recommend this hotel and the town of Cully that, as least during this mid-September time we were there, felt like it was just for very few of us to enjoy.

A very happy visitor from Pennsylvania, US.

The hotel is ok, but nothing very special. Prices are really high. The rooms are ok in terms of size but hot during the summer. The breakfast was very nice and fresh. I was expecting a lot more but the service is so-so, and the rooms are so-so with a view on the main street. It is overpriced and I think there are more interesting places to stay in the lavaux area.

I used to be going to this hotel and restaurant off and on for many years, more tha twenty to be axact. Now after a pause of several years I found a marked downturn in the restaurant and the service of the hotel. This used to be a michelin starred restaurant, now it is a reasonably good bistro. The room I had was newly renovated and well appointed. There was renovation work going on in the house. The room did not have a airconditioner - very uncomfortable in the 85 deg weather we had. It was facing the road and was noisy.

Room Tip: If you want a good nights sleep ask for a room facing the back

Very well appointed, large and comfortable room with upscale bath. Internet, cable, etc. all worked perfectly. Staff very helpful, well run, very clean, good breakfast. One minute walk to the lake. Did not eat at the restaurant.

We found the place in a rainy evening after looking for some time for a decent dinner and been harassed by lack of parking facilities in most of the large villages and towns of the area. The restaurant is located in an old hotel endowed with much patina. Food is French and it offers you a special and comfortable evening spent in a special environment. The food is delicious, the service outstanding and the prices acceptable. What else do you expect for an enjoyable evening?
