We Sat outside in the garden, the service was good as was the food and wine.
I had the beef which was so tender and my partner had the fish which was also good.
Would recommend a visit.

We didn't make reservations, and when we arrived around 8:15, the restaurant was full. We stood around for about 5 minutes until a waiter told us to come back in 30 - 40 minutes. We walked around the town and came back around 9:00 and were glad we did. We split a salad misto and I had the branzino which was grilled and placed over mixed veggies and capers and served with rice. It was delicious. Jim had the veal steak with risotto Parmesan and it was excellent. We sat out in the garden and once it was dark, they brought over a candle. The service is not fast and at times, you could feel neglected, but we were there for a leisurely meal so it was fine. They started with a lovely hard crust bread and they serve tap water at no coat if you ask. This restaurant is most reasonable for the quality.

Wide variety of local dishes, cooked to perfection. We had a tiramisu which was so nice that we ordered a second one. Service was also friendly and helpful. Only expected a more "antico" atmosphere, though the existing one is really fine.
Prices were reasonable, lower than in locarno.

The atmosphere is like homecooking but the dishes are on a different Level. Perfect Service and tasty and creative dishes. The Tagliatelle Vongole were great. Just a good olive oil makes the difference! The served white in the carafe was a surprise as well. The chimney spent some warmth and added a special feeling. All in all good food in a cosy place prepared by friendly an professional people. You have to park on a payed public parking near by.

We usually spend three to four breaks a year in Ascona. It's far more difficult to find restaurants that are open all year round, and the Antico Ristorante Borromeo is one of them. In winter, it's the wonderful atmosphere inside (with a large fireplace) - almost as if you're at someone's large dining room at home. In the warmer part of the year, the garden - with its pergola of natural branches and foliage - is fantastic. Great range of food choices - even for a light cold bite in an evening. Being Switzerland, prices are obviously in line with the overall level, but with regard to this restaurant you have to admit that the same cuisine would be significantly more expensive if served down at the lakeside.
