“cute hotel, but bad soundproofing”
Reviewed 24 August 2006

This hotel has eclectic charm. It's right in the center of Ascona and a short walk from the lakefront. A really big advantage is parking. Each guest gets an assigned parking space so there's no hassle. Other hotels in town have no parking. The staff is mostly helpful about suggestions. We had a couple of problems, though. We received several phone calls from the U.S. that were never put through to our room. We were in the room at the time and expecting these calls, but the desk had no explanation. Also, we could hear the toilet flushing from the room above us and the room next to us. And not only that, we could hear the person going to the bathroom! During our stay we were awakened both nights by this, and the sound of the flushing is so magnified it was like an explosion. Strangely enough, I couldn't hear a peep from our own bathroom while in use, and it was just steps away from the bed.

This was our second visit to the Riposo and am pleased to confirm that this family run hotel have maintained their excellent standards. The quality of the rooms we had were even better and as always the food was superb. All the staff and management do go that 'extra mile' to ensure your stay is a great experience ! This is a beautiful part of the world and one I would recommend anyone visit and if you stay at the Riposo that will just enhance the experience.

This was our second visit to the Riposo but this time with 3 generations of our family and stayed for 4 nights.
Last time we gave it an excellent rating and it has got even better. We travelled with my mother in law and believe me she moans at the slightest thing! Not only could she not find fault but thought the hotel was the high point of our 2 week tour and wants to go back - True praise indeed.
I can only see one negative review of this hotel and that was from someone who could not get booked, so did not experience the magic this hotel and town offers.
If you can, try this hotel as it is really different and excellently run by the family Studer who really do care.
For us I doubt if we will be staying at the Riposo again as we have decided to buy a second home here.

Spent 4 nights here in July 06 - didn't look too impressive from the outside, but one inside it was quite nice rustic hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful, room was a nice size, open bathroom to the room but separate loo (of course!). comfy beds and a small sofa plus tv. No balcony, but patio doors with "mini" balcony/step. 1 min walk from bars or restaurnts, but funnily enough there was no noise from the town at night. lovely harbour, buildings, good facilities in the town. Hotel owner has his own jazz band that play on Saturdyas, very arty hotel and town. Food was delicious, breakfast buffet was fab, well sticked, excellent quality food all round. roof top terrace and pool easily accessible andvery clean. Day 1 saw little chocolate love heats left on the bed plsu bath robes for use in the room or at the pool. Towels and a shower also provided at the roof top terrace. Could not fault this hotel, would go back there any day.

Ascona is the kind of place you wish no one else had discovered and you could have all to yourself... it has the easy atmosphere of nearby Italy, with all the cleanliness and clockwork of Switzerland. This hotel is the same.

From the courtyard with it's little fountain to the spectacular rooftop pool with the most breathtaking view of Ascona (from anywhere!), there is no better place (dare I even say, in Switzerland...?) to stay than this. Yes, I know: it's all relevant to what you are looking for; if you want the 5 star 300+ room hotel with the doorman in a uniform and 6 restaurants, you won't like it here. However, if you want people who will do what they can to make you feel welcome, and want to see a splendid show (where the owner and his daughter - by the way, what a voice - play in the evening entertainment Jazz band in the courtyard on the weekend), stay here. Ascona has a great variety of restaurants (many linked to a hotel), but "staying in a night" at the Riposo will not do any harm. I have stayed here various times, and have seen different types of rooms - all are fine to spectacular (the best being those that have the panoramic windows overlooking the rooftops of Ascona). And you are virtually a half a minute away from the promenade.

I understand the past reviewers frustration if he went through what he said he did (I for one always got the response I needed and I have been here 4 times). Let me give all a little tip - book in advance as soon as you know, because I have had the experience of calling and finding out that the hotel is sold out. Remember it isn't a large property, and it thankfully is not part of any chain. Have your evening stroll after dinner, find a bench overlooking the lake and watch the moon on the water, and then look forward to heading back to the Riposo.

So for my perspective (and I stay in hotels every month due to my line of work): the food is fantastic, the service is superb, the pool is picture perfect, the entertainment is exquisite, the rooms are rememberable, and the ambience... well, this is the definition of ambience.

After reading the reviews on this website, we thought we would ask the hotel for an offer. We wrote emails to this hotel twice (Saturday and Monday) asking for rates and availability and received no response either time. Then on Tuesday we called to let them know we were waiting for an offer. We had to call two or three times before someone finally picked up the telephone. We had a pleasant conversation, and were told that they had received our email but were too busy to answer. But even after the call we still received no offer!! A final email on Wednesday brought the response that they were fully booked. If this hotel can not offer potential customers a proper response, it makes me wonder about their level of service for guests. A waste of time!

For our first visit to beautiful Lago Maggiore in the Ticino region of Switzerland, my wife chose the romantic Hotel Riposo. We were guests of the Studer family for three days. They looked after our every need from the time we arrived to our departure. Upon our arrival we were greeted personally by their daughter. The Riposo is beautifully decorated with artwork on every wall and each room door has a handpainted motif.
We enjoyed dining at their restaurant for two of our three evenings. The restaurant was closed one night so we had our dinner at the Grotto Baldori in Ascona. Ascona and the surrounding is so beautiful and our stay at the Riposo was unsurpassed. The family Studer personally sees to the cleanliness and orderliness of the Riposo. Frau Studer had even made arrangements to decorate our room and dining room table with flowers in honor of our anniversary
